Title: WTB: Brake Pedal from 5.0 T-Bird/Cougar/Mustang
Post by: Big B on April 20, 2013, 03:30:51 AM
I'm converting my 88 TC over to Vac-Assist brakes, and the Vac-booster rod does not fit the stock brake pedal, the mounting points are different. So, I need the Brake Pedal from a 5.0 car which will fit the '88 Mustang Vac-Booster. Any Brake Pedal from a 5.0 Bird/Cougar/Mustang should work. Too busy with work this time of year to go junkyarding myself, and my car is stuck in place until I find the brake pedal that I need, so if someone could help me out, I would seriously appreciate it. Help a Bird see glory on the road again this summer.

wait a minute, you are swapping in a booster from a fox mustang into a fox thunderbird and your saying that the pedals are different?  I disagree, I think you need to recheck your application something doesnt seem to be lining up right.  try turning the actuator rod or also make sure the booster is pushed all the way back against the flywheel before you do the unnecessary work of swapping in an identical brake pedal assembly.  I'm not putting you down in any way just trying to save you time and trouble, swapping the pedals is not fun.

Not trying to argue here, but many people on Turbo Ford would also disagree with you. The non-ABS pedal is shorter, and has the booster actuator rod mounting stud set a little lower. This supposedly gives it a better fulcrum point, and lets you brake with less effort. I may be able to make the stock ABS pedal work in this app, we will see, but it is not correct. As always, I would like to have the correct piece if possible.

Wondering if it would be possible to just swap the pedals and avoid having to remove the entire assembly? Another possibility might be to modify the existing pedal (i.e. cut and weld) to the configuration that you need.

maybe your car is different or I have the oddball, like I said I've done the swap twice.  one car was an 88TC T5 car and the other an 88TC auto car. I had no problem at all with the pedals or actuator rod.

Well, nevermind now guys. I lucked out when I stopped by a guys house with a friend of mine yesterday, that just happened to have an 87 notch that he was parting out, he let me pull the pedal and a few other misc parts that I needed off it for $20, really nice guy. Got everything that I need now. Thanks for the offer anyway though haystack.
