Title: Loose Oil Pressure Sesor
Post by: WankelsRevenge on June 18, 2005, 12:32:03 PM
Well, obviously I am new here, and as some may be able to tell, am regularly a rotary driver. However me and my girlfriend share a 86 5.0L Thunderbird. Which has a few probs. One of these I think is a loose connector or wire on the oil pressure sensor. While at idle, or while crusing the oil pressure gauge will go from four bars, to just one, and then back up to four. I think its a loose wire/connector because it just drops up and down spazmattically, and not gradually. So mainly I was wondering where the oil pressure gauge sending unit is so I can get a look at it to find out if it's loose or what not.
TIA
Ryan

drivers side close to the oil filter. There is a wire over it and it is fairly big. Maybe like 23mm or somethign like that. more likely it is a bad wire though. Just rewire it.

The sending units are notorious for going bad.  They tend to do what you describe due to prolonged driving at highway speeds combined with an idle that is set low.  If your idle is OK I would check the wiring as stated above and then the sending unit.

About how much do new sending units cost? And where could I locate one? Sorry for all the newb questions but I'm new to the domestic V-8 game.
