Title: Marchal Prices
Post by: rodsterh on March 13, 2013, 09:14:43 PM
Wow....am I missing something about this Marchal pieces?  The price for the covers is in the ballpark but $374 for two lenses and reflectors?  Heck, I'll take my NOS lamps apart and sell the parts separately!

Maybe it's the boxes?  :hick:

I bought an entire car with marchals and covers on for less than that total!

With that said, they are getting harder to find. If I ever see one in the junk yard, they are broken.

Personally, unless you are restoring a car to like new, stock condition, I see no reason to buy them unless they are really cheap. You can buy aftermarket lights at a fraction of the cost, that are brighter, and also have covers. People spend a lot of money for them to install on modded cars. Restorations? Sure, then I see the reason for them. otherwise. Nope.

Which lights do you use? Clear lensed?

Good point, I paid less than that for whole cars! :hick:

Yea, must have been someone that really wanted NOS.

I have Hella lights on my car. They were NOS, still in the factory Ford box with the harness and all. I got them about 4 years ago for thirty something dollars. Uber cheap, so, I'm using them. I'll probably swap them out for new aftermarket lights after paint. I got them because they were cheap. "Hella" lights have no important meaning to me. My car isn't even a Turbo coupe. I want brighter lights.

I keep putting Marchal's back on my 86's because they give off great light IMO!  On my autox car, if I turn them off, I can't see ANYTHING.

If someone just has[/b] to have Marchals, then by all means pay the NOS price, but the Cibie Airport 35 is the exact same fog lamp (minus the cat logo) and is still being made.  Both Marchal (when it was around) and Cibie were under the same parent company (Valeo - and Cibie still is).  Granted - they are not that much cheaper at ~$210 for a pair, but they are new, are available in fog or driving light configurations, have the option of clear or yellow lenses, and come with (Cibie) covers.

EDIT: Wanted to add they they still use the H2 bulb in the Cibies, but I can get those for a couple bucks all day long at my local parts store.

So basically I have $600 worth of functioning Marchal fog lights and covers under the nose of my Mark VII. Cool. I hope I don't break them. I'm never turning them on again, for fear of burning out a bulb.

What's all this about bulbs being hard to find? When I fixed up my marchals a couple years ago, the bulbs were at the part store with all the other bulbs. Have they been discontinued or something?

They used to be not at parts stores at all...in fact, I'd find them at JC Whitney and that's about it. In the last few years they're available in more stores. AFAIK the Marchal lamps are about the only ones using H2 bulbs. They're definitely oddballs.

Good info. And yes it depends on the situation.  Not sure if I'd put a pair of Marchal$$$/cover$$$ on a driver but they are the only thing that looks right on a show car IMHO.

What do you ask for at the local parts store (knowing how helpful they are sometimes! :hick:)  ? Just H2 bulbs?

I know the lamps and covers are pretty desirable and bring some good money, but I'm baffled at the price someone paid for just a pair of lenses and frames????

Mine currently has Hella fogs, they where installed when I bought the car though, and I can't tell if they are original to the car or not.

Anyone know if the Hellas are stock for the '88 Turbo Coupe, or did someone swap these in place of some Marchals at some point? If so, I'd like to go back to the stock Marchals.

That's what I do, but[/b] I know the local Advance/Pep Boys stores do not[/b] carry them... at all.  I get mine, as with most of the parts I buy locally, from JK Auto Parts which is sort of like NAPA I guess.  I know you can get them at NAPA as well, but they usually have to be ordered.

Ok, thanks, I'll be sticking with the stock Hellas then. Both of my bulbs are burnt, but I would like to switch to driving lights anyway, (since the brights on these cars are ) so hopefully they still sell the bulbs, and in DL config.
