Title: A new Bird for me!
Post by: Superman! on March 12, 2013, 02:06:58 AM
Picked this up this morning, 1980 Thunderbird with 54k original miles. Better pics will be up tomorrow, these are the sellers. Its in wonderful shape, guys dad bought it new & only drove it a few years before he died. Hasn't been on the road since 96, hasn't been driven any real distance since 83. Power efffing nothing :P a 302 and A/C that looks about it. Needs a good solid tuneup, a carb & a new brake booster and shes good to go!

I've now had every body style of T-bird or Cougar from 77-97 :D

Ummm, as of right now i'm just gonna drive it, it's pretty different than any other Tbird i've had. I kinda like that it's simple, not a whole lot that can go wrong, I won't have to play with window or seat motors for once :D

I have a '79 Heritage that i'm either putting an engine in or selling for about a 1/4 of my investment (D: i dont wanna!!) or selling my '65 Imperial. I'm trying to stray away from Ma Mopar, much too expensive for my taste & that's if you can FIND the parts, lol.

but i've ballooned up to four cars now, at least one has to go.

Orange and brown isn't exactly my favorite color combo, but it's growing on me. It is nice to have a break from baby blue & white

That's my truck & the Heritage before i had the top put on. There's a 68 Plymouth Fury III behind them

Nope, no cruise & a C4. As far as options go all i see is the 302 & leather seats. Manual seat, crank windows, manual mirrors, no premium sound either.

Mine is a Town Landau, you dont see too many base model cars with tu-tone paint.

Nice heritage too.

long time no talk lol. Drove the BoxFox for about a week in the summer before let the headgasket go :( we just finished putting a new motor in yesterday, here's some pics of the process.

A few pics of the old motor and the new motor waiting its turn. The oil pan was paper thin along the sides & literally every single freeze plug was on the edge of popping (even the one behind the bell housing)

Should've been done with it done a couple weeks ago but we dropped the oil pump shaft down into the pan & we weren't to enthusiastic about getting it out. >:(  Dropping the pan and fishing it out wasn't nearly as hard as i thought, just really tight and awkward. We've got it running now, I get paid wendsday night so I'm gonna take it to get a set of duals and have the timing light put on it, then it should be good to go mechanically!

Nice! A new engine going in always gives oneself a warm fuzzy tingle.

Nice car!  A kid down the street from me picked a two tone grey one up a few years back.  I left a note on it with my interest to purchase it from him.  He never responded and quickly turned it into a pile of neglected rust and destroyed paint.

Well it looks like I'll have it back Saturday, then I'll take some good pictures. The pics make the paint & top look a little better than it is. Next up is a headliner, I kinda think a set of buckets from a 63-66ish tbird would look cool with a console from 77-79.

I'd like to jump up to a 4bbl eventually, the intake is already a performer 302 with an adapter. Then I want to ditch the 14's and get some turbines. I'm a painter by trade so I'd love to repaint it down the road but I don't have the space for that now. Next week I'm going to have the headliner and maybe the top replaced. Right now i need to find a way to fix the "axle"(for lack of a better term) that the headlight door rotates on. It gets stuck unless you're right there to guide it up. I just want a comfy DD so I want it to stay mostly stock for now.

So i was thinking of these seats:

With this style center console:
X

but looking at things i think i like this style console too, but it would have to be cut down into a consolette. I also wouldn't know if the seats and the older style console would fit in the car. im sure the 77-79 console would be fine since its super narrow. It would also give me two cupholders if I retain the collumn shift. :P
