I looking for a good gasket kit for my 91 302 5.0 motor out of stang, I would like to put in a cam also, while I have it on the stand. What are some of your suggestion that have work well, especially gasket kits???
I am using stock heads and intakes, just wondering what cam (if one) I could use with out alot of modifations, and not messing with computer any.
Are you running and EEC-III or EEC-IV computer? This will play into the camshaft selection as well as if the car is a stick or auto and what rear gears you are running. Once the guys know this then I am sure there will be mention of the Ford alphabet camshafts, TFS stage you name it, and possibly Anderson's as well. If you actually take the time to call Comp Cams and work with one of the guys there and have them spec a camshaft for the car I think you will be far better off but thats my opinion.
Gaskets...Felpro's. Here is what I used on my 306 with the cast iron D0ZZ heads and stock upper and lower:
FEL-10112 heads to block
FEL-1250 lower intake to the heads
FEL-MS94555 upper intake to the lower intake
FEL-Q1684 valve cover gaskets (blue rubber with steel core, these are reusable)
FEL-1415 header to head
FEL-1809 pan to block (should be a rubberized black gasket)
FEL-TCS45449 Timing chain cover to block and water pump to timing chain cover (also has the seal for the timing chain cover for the snout of the crank)
Now there are three different rear main seals a person can use and it depends on what you like:
FEL-BS40620 which is a rubber seal
FEL-2922RS which is a viton seal
FEL-BS40644 which is a PTFE seal
I put the PTFE seal on this last motor as I was really getting tired of the rear main drip that seams to occur with the rubber unit within several thousand miles of installing a new one. I did some research online and the PTFE is what a lot of the guys are going to. I will tell you that is was a bitch to install but hopefully it will be worth it.
You still need the thermostat housing gasket, oil pump to block gasket, oil pump pickup tube to pump gasket, oil pan drain plug washers, throttle body to EGR spacer, and EGR spacer to upper intake. I was not sure how far you were taking it so I did not list these but they are available at most parts houses.
Darren
Well with stock heads and intake I would just keep the stock HO cam. I will work best. If you put in a bigger cam you won't really gain anything with the stock heads and intake.
.....what he said. The HO cam is a well designed cam for all round use. I am using one with 1.7 RRs and double springs on a carbed setup with shorties....love it.
thanks guys, yes I have been reading some on using just the 1.7 RR on stock set up and works good, sounds like the way I will go.
Darren I was thinking of using a fel pro gasket kit, I will check on what goes with it, like type gaskets.
fel pro gaskets all the way!
I ordered a fel pro kit today
