Title: Plastic model of `88 Cougar?
Post by: WilkBoy on February 24, 2013, 10:46:31 PM
Has anyone seen a plastic model kit for an 87 or 88 Cougar? I have tried searching with no luck. I did find a posting for a Thunderbird from those years so maybe the Cougar model exists somewhere too? Thanks!

I've got an 88 T-Bird model, somewhere that I did when I was 15.  I'll have to dig it out.  It was a TC, but while I'm digging, maybe I'll find my boneyard (the box that holds all my spare and swap parts as well as my tools and paints) and swap in a 5.0 just for the hell of it.

Check out what I found on ebay the other day! I had no idea previously that matchbox had even ever made these!

Thanks for the replies. I guess this confirms there aren't any model Cougar's around from the '80's. I'm sure if they were out there, someone on this forum would have known about it. I did see an '87 tbird, maybe I'll settle for that.

The '83 to '88 Cougars are lost in obscurity.  Not worthy of much acknowledgement, a model or Matchbox.  Even when staring the cat logo in the face, people continually ask "what year Tbird is that?"  Eric's CoolCats site is quite the lifeline for these cars and the special place he has provided on the internet exclusively for the identity of these cars is extremely appreciated by this Cougar owner as we are lost everywhere else in the auto world.  A rare sighting even in the mid 90s, they simply aren't on the roads in my state any more.  Thankfully, we share parts with more popular cars such as the TBird and Mustang.

Anyway, yeah, we simply don't have the numbers of appeal to the masses that would be worthy to join the ranks of the more recognized and appreciated car models.  But that's ok.  Being off to the side has its advantages.  I don't like these cars because they are obscure, it just happens the cars I like turn out to be obscure.

I really like the CoolCats website...good stuff....even if it was designed on a Mac :-P

I remember a 90 XR7 model from Revell or Monogram.
