Title: plastic tabs for door glass
Post by: BlackTHUNDA on February 21, 2013, 09:40:33 AM
I need the plastic tabs that hold the glass in place (mine are broken). My driver side door has been without the panel for the past 4 months. LOL
Every time I move the window up/down I have to hold it or it will get out of place.

Do they still make them?
Where can I get some?

There is a dorman part number. I picked them up from both autozone and orileys in the dorman/self help section.

It comes with two big plastic channels and two small ones. Both work. I drlled holes in them and sandded glass, then glued it with windsheild adhesive, and it worked for 3 years on the drivers side before I junked the car.

I did a post on this some time ago. Don't waste you time on those taps. You have to make a set of these full length channels or the problem will never be corrected. Here again is a set i make and solve the problem FOREVER!! Onced these are set in the glass they will never come off again. PROBLEM SOLVED!!

I need to make some of these this spring.. is that 1/8" angle tack welded?

Actually i got all the metal at Home Depot. Flat stock and angle iron. 1/8 THICK buy 3/4 or maybe  1/2  if memory serves me. Bring the old clip with you and this way you can decide what pieces you will need. That is what i did. Hang tight i will post more photos!!

I made a shim from a piece of OAK the thickness of the glass plus a little more as the template for welding. Then i used Vice Grips to hold them together for welding. This way the sealer or adhesive could bond to the glass and the new channel. Use your judgement on this. I have made several of these for people and they work great. Also do a series of welds down the length of the section. Not one continuous bead. Several one inch passes with a couple of inches between them. Years back we used to use a spring channel then use a piece of window welting and tap the channel on to the glass. The old timers that restore old cars know this so well. I helped my dad do these old windows years back and it hit me when these clips on these cars keep falling off. One thing is after welding you have to TWEAK the newly made channel to the glass. As the welding has a tendency to BOW the channel in a curve. No big deal just some bending to make the channel fit properly. Hope this helps and thanks for the interest in my MOD!!

Note if you do not have a welder you can buy several of those clips as mentioned by stacks. Then get a piece of flat stock drill it to span the entire length of the 2 holes in the regulator. This allows you to install several of those stock clips along the length of the glass like 5 or 6 0f them along the glass and then drill new holes in bar stock for the corresponding holes. This adds several of those clips and that also works real good. I made the channel because i like to make things to keep busy and be unique. But by now most know me well enough to figure that one out. Thanks Again
