Anyone have any tricks on getting those screws out of the cover on the intake manifold? Those four torx screws wont come out. I just twist bits off trying to get them out.
Try putting the bit in the bolt and then hit it sharply with a hammer, they have thread lock on them. Usually works if you hammer them one time first, then try turning them. :D
HAHAHHA you beat me to it... same technique ;)
Actually I beat you both. I've tried that and only one has come out. Three are still stuck.
Had the same problem with my Cougar, finally just drilled them out and left the plate off. I thought to myself, "Who needs to look good when you have so many other problems?" :giggle:
Here's a trick. Try to see if they'll tighten.... Sometimes they're froze into place and if you tighten 'em just a hair you can back 'em out afterwards
Here's what always works for me with stuck screws. Using a dremel with a thin cutoff bit cut a slot in the top of each screw, then use a flat screwdriver on them. The little bit of heat from cutting helps loosen them too. I just used this trick on my ignition switch inside the steering column since Ford uses those stupid torx screws with the pin in the centre that requires a hollow torx bit.
:canada:
Well I just drilled them out. They were stuck good.
Use a propane torch and they will come right out.

actuallly, all you need is a screw extractor kit.. Drill to bottom of screw head but not to far or your screwed too. Then take the extractor take a hammer hit it real hard down into the screw and use anything you got to turn it. its simple and you dont have to go and drill them out. if you have to you can put it back on, its alittle thing called self tappin screws.
yeah if I ever get around to getting the screws out of mine, I will put in some kind of no stick stuff. Why do you need the intake cover to have thred lock?
