The cam drive gears in the SHO's V8 tend to break off the camshafts...thus, a common fix is to weld them in place.
My buddy Steve has one...I mentioned to him to get it done before they break..oh yeah, it's an interference engine, too.

Only slightly interference, thankfully. 8 bent intake valves.  When I got the car it had the same problem because some idiot pulled the bank 2 intake cam, welded the sprocket and put it back in 2 teeth off. When I had it down last, I welded the other 3 because I assumed the one was good. Evidently that was not the case.

NIGHTMARE....I'm really sorry to hear it! I take it this is a completely stock engine. Eight bent intake valves? How do the pistons look? I think that would be enough to make a Monk act like Charles Manson! GEEEEEZZ!!

Witness marks, nothing more.  The stems are very small so they bend easily. I'll post pics when I get home.

Always has, and will continue to have til I finish my 5 lug project.  Form follows function.

So, you gonna rebuild the engine, or just fix the current issue?

My buddy is itching to tear into his, I told him if he does anything, he needs to address the cam issue NOW, but he's going to tear the front apart and fix some rust and replace the radiator, then move on to the next issue(s).

I think it would be neat as hell to acquire a wrecked one....then swap everything needed into a Taurus wagon. Wheels, wiring that's needed, etc.
I'm weird...I like wagons.

As far as parts and damage, it doesn't look too bad! Other than a lot of work it looks like it will be fine. If only you knew then what you know now... Too bad it never works that way. Thanks, for the pictures!

At least I had spares.  First time around I replaced ALL the valves so I had 8 good intake valves that I had pulled from bank 1 and kept safe.
