Title: A thank you and something useful to share
Post by: Mikelonis on January 30, 2013, 11:23:34 PM
Hey guys. A ways back I made a request here for some staged photos of guys working on their cars and using their smartphones. Bryan163 came through with some great shots and even staged some additional ones I asked for.

original post (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?33468-Wacky-Fox-Thunderbird-Photo-Request")

I used them, with his permission of course, as a part of a business presentation. Well, we've been working on this "project" for a while now. It's not totally complete but it's live and if you ever go to PICK-n-PULL (or other self-service junkyards) you should find this interesting.

Take a look at ROW52 (http://"http://www.row52.com")

Its bullshiznit. Won't show anything within a 100 miles of Baltimore,Md. When I say anything I mean no cars of any make.

Really guy? Mikelonis clearly said it's a work in progress. Before you whipped out your ignorant "bullsh*t card" if you did a little looking you'd realize there are only a couple of partiting yards at the moment. NONE OF WHICH ARE IN MARYLAND. So obviously there isn't going to be anything within 100 miles of you.

First off, it'd like to see you create a minority stake in a search like this, secondly, it's not bullshi*, you're just an as*hole. //end rant.

Thanks guys. Yes, it's a three phase plan which is specified on the about page. This first effort was the heavy lift but I still understand the expectations with websites. Pick-n-Pull is the first partiting recycler in the ROW52 system with 50 plus locations. ROW52 has photo agents in the field assigned to yards taking pics of fresh set cars. We have about 10 yards assigned with agents on the ground using our app to upload pics straight to our site. If you don't see pictures for the Pick-n-Pull near you (if there is one near you!) then look for the "work for us" link at the bottom of any ROW52 page, you could become an agent and earn some extra money. It's a neat little contract job and you'd be helping something very useful.

The drop down menu for distance won't select, it also ignores the "function" key on my android, so I cannot do searches for multipul years. I see my local pick and pull listed, but cars I know they have there don't show up.

I really, really like the idea behind this. I actually only go to junkyards that don't have an on-line listing out of desperation, or when I'm killing time.

Thanks Haystack. Actually our SLC photo agent starts tomorrow, so you should begin seeing pics for fresh set cars for that yard starting 2/1. Thanks for filling me in on the other stuff, works fine for me but we are optimizing for phones and tablets. Did you try going direct to the store page?

SLC Store (http://"http://row52.com/Yards/Detail/71")

and to get an idea where it's all headed see this link (http://"http://row52.com/Search?Year=&ZipCode=&Distance=50&HasImage=true&MakeId=&ModelId=1914&LocationId=&Page=1") it's just a search for "Thunderbird" with images checked.

or better yet, how about Cougar (http://"http://row52.com/Search?Year=&ZipCode=&Distance=50&HasImage=true&MakeId=&ModelId=3634&LocationId=&Page=1")

Reminds me of http://www.car-part.com which is well-established and been around a few years. All depends on what yards have a computer inventory of course and if they join the network. But that's certainly the lion's share of 'em. Best of luck to ya, good to have another search engine!!
