Title: computer from mustang
Post by: 83TB on January 18, 2013, 11:08:42 PM
Ok I might have made a mistake today when I purchased the motor, it had a wiring harness and computer for a mustang, the donor mustang was still in his garage, but after I got home I noticed the computer says L1C on it, and looking that up it says for a 91-93 tbird non HO motor.  Can I use it with putting in a T-5 later?  or should I get the A9L computer and use the wiring harness?

If it's for a 91-93 Tbird 5.0, it's an HO...or so I've read and seen with my own eyes.

Man I am confused here to, the motor is from another mustang, but the harness came out of one that was in his garage, I guess someone put the L1c in the mustang or something. Yes it was an auto mustang, but can a 5 speed work with those computers?

Go get your money back, at least for the computer.

L1c is a 91-93 tbird, and a completely different pin setup then a mustang, or 86-88 cat/bird.

For a speed density H.O engine, or Mass Air? If you're keeping the H.O engine basically stock, you really don't need Mass Air.

I guess it could be repined, not sure, but it is for a maf setup.

It could be repinned, but I'll bet the calibration and sensors are different. There would only be about 6 pins I figure to be changed, which would be easy enough to do.

But i'd be worried if you wanted to get it chipped or calibrated later on.

Well I could try re-pin first and and see where it gets me.

I wasn't sure if you were going MAF or not.. might not be worth the trouble to re-pin if your not going that route..
but I would give it a try if I was going MAF.. you have to re-pin and add for the upgrade anyway... Whats a couple more wires

I would get good diagrams for both cars, just to be safe. I'm sure its doable.

Will I need the harness for inside car from the mustang? I read that will use the under hood harness.  The Tbird only has the harness from inside the car to the headlights and stuff now.  Old harness from the computer to underhood was takin out before me.

I went and printed the pin layout for the 88-93 mustang harness and 91-93 t-bird computer that I have.  Looks like re pin will be ok, put I have a question about pin #44 and #49 (R hego gnd and L hego gnd), the T-bird computer does not show a pin location for that.  Everything else looks like I can re pin.  Any suggestion beside get a A9L, lol?

Also did not see a pin for the #45 Baro (map/bap)?

Phone 5ology tech line, the guy there is a wizard. I think I got the same computer as you thought I would have issues too, I came out alright. I was panicking just like you thinking I got the wrong computer, but there are many different computers that will work. This guy knows all the pins by heart and where they go on the car and he will even phone back to see how your making out.

Not sure if it is an actual tech line but here is their number (310) 508-8610, I thought the guy I talked to was named Brian, but its been over a year since I talked to them. They will let you know what you need and can hook you up with anything you might be missing or in need of.
