Title: Check out what I recieved from one of our board members!
Post by: 86T-bird on January 15, 2013, 10:53:12 PM
Take a look at a Spoiler I purchased from a fellow board member.
This is what I received after stating in three different PM's that I was only willing to buy it if there were no spider cracks in the paint.
Ya think I have case for a refund?

I sure would be hoppin' mad about receiving that thing. Especially if you asked him specifically about any spidering. Who was it? The rest of us should know who pulled this .

I sold him the FMS kit, and I stated the paint was weathered

You didn't ask for pics before you paid for the part?

Could I get a poll of who (other than Graham -88turbo) would discribe this spoiler as having no spider cracks, but just has weathered paint?

Yes I did. I asked for up close photos so I could see what it looked like. Was told: "It's up in the garage and hard to get to". Sent me pics of it on a car in a field. I responded: It looks dried out and in rough shape". His response: "No, it's in good shape". Then, I again state the condition of sale: "OK, as long as there are no spider cracks in the paint"
Our board is a small community. There is a bit of faith which usually goes into dealing with other board members. It appears mine was misplaced.
Small communities have a way of policing themselves...

One mans junk is another's treasure.
A detailed description can solve all these kinda problems
I try not to take sides because everyone has different opinions
But that is in rough shape

Graham. It is your actions (or lack of) which are in question, not your intent. The pics make it clear: What was sent & received is not what I agreed to purchase. It's easy to make this right, I simply want a refund.

Graham,
Come on now with the age of the paint, look again at the pics. The paint isn't the issue, it's the underlying Urethane that's a mess.
This stuff is not like refinishing fiberglass or metal. Rough is kind description for that piece! I didn't' even show the pics where it's broken and someone drilled holes in it.
It's simple to see the spoiler isn't free of spider cracks and I have the PM's which show I stated three times that it was a condition of the sale. I can provide copies if needed.
We'll both be out the cost of shipping and we'll both be a bit wiser. You can sell it someone else with full disclosure or use it on your own car.
Just refund what I paid and this is over.

There you go. Admission that the part isn't usable until some prep work goes into it. It's pretty clear that someone looking for a part without spider cracks isn't looking for something needing work to make it usable but rather something that is already usable. When I'm looking for a car and someone states it's in great shape, then I show up to look at it and call them out on the list of reasons why it's not in great shape, they reply with 'well yeah but if you just do this this and that, it will be a great car.' But what it CAN BE or WILL BE is different than WHAT IT CURRENTLY IS and the price should reflect the amount of work needed. Sorry but this sort of is quite aggravating and borderline fraudulent. Some people would rather pay more on something that is already straight to save time on making it right and others would rather save money on something needing work because they can save even after putting the time in or they enjoy that type of work.

The age doesn't matter. That like 'nice for a 25-year old car' is useless and extremely subjective. Whether it's 5 years old, 25 years old or 55 years old the standards for great shape, nice shape, needing work, project, etc are the SAME. I have a FMS spoiler as I'm sure other people do and believe it or not, it is possible for parts and cars to still be in great shape over time. Putting the excuse 'for it's age' says nothing and is more of a cover-up on the true condition than anything else.

and yet going into the purchase *no one* found it prudent to "plan for the worst but hope for the best" this unto itself is rediculous knowing your buying a part that is this old. sounds to me that someone wanted to bolt something on today after a can of spray paint and got mad.
Better yet, ill go out on a limb her (just a dumb white boy from wv but),, id suspect you made a *choice* to bring this issue up in public rather than discussing it over pm first which is where it should belong. I would think bringing this to the public forum is as a result of 88Turbo's lack of partition in resolving the matter and your simply exhausted and want to vent over the matter.
Choosing to do so tells all of us on the board something else as well, we better be even more careful working with you because your core values of the way you handle things is very agressive and irresponsible, moreover its wreckless at best.
regardless of the condition or the sale, you specified no spider cracks and no one could verify this unless the paint were to be removed by the seller. Verfication of this would obviously change the current state of the product you purchased,, this might have been a good thing for you because then you would have had part of the work done for you so you could repaint. I personally think the requirement you made was a little on the thick side because you obviously had pictures that supported the idea that regardless of condition, you knew full well going into the purchase that the item needed work...and you took the risk hoping it did not.
post 14 probably would have transpired over pm but now its here,,,,,,,,,,SHAME ON YOU 88turbo,,, LOL
Another limb i will go out on,,, I suspect that the root cause for our issue is the fact that you feel the money you paid doesnt match what you purchased. Now having brought this idea up, i apppologize for everythng i have said if you paid a bunch of money for this. I would expect it to be in perfect condition if i paid top dollar.

I don't know all the details about the transaction, but I'm going to post a bunch of irrelevant opinions about old car parts, living in a police state, and faded paint on hard to find items.
I'm also a self-admitted ass, and I can live with that too. :flip:

If the part was cheap, and he didn't do much to talk it up, then that condition is about what you could expect. It is restorable with some work, so I would just go ahead with it. If you where promised a "Show Quality" piece, and did pay top dollar for that, I would be getting a refund right about now regardless.

Without knowing all the specifics of both sides, how can anyone even comment and side with one person or the other?
I do agree PM should have handled it all. If no satisfaction.... then bring it public. I feel we are all honest on this board and have very few problems like this, compared to some forums.

Not to be a dick or anything, its a somewhat hard to find piece anymore without selling your house to get it. We all are very resourceful people. If I had a 4 eyed car I would have bought it no questions asked. Barring the shape of the part, sandpaper and prep work and hell even a touch of 'glass and I'm sure it would be an exceptional piece. I've bought many parts from graham he's an exceptional person to deal with and if he has parts I need and visa versa I wouldn't think twice.

Thanks for the comments.
Typically I shy away from any comments or theads you particpate in. Afterall jcass does say alot!
The thread was not started as a knee jerk reaction. This has been ongoing for 6 weeks. If you note, I did not mention who sold this or what was paid, as I felt it was inappropriate. Graham offered the info. In addition he is working with to settle it. You will also note; I did not provide negitive feed back for Graham as that is permanent, this thread will fade.
I do deal professionally on the board and in my work place. Your insinuation is callus at best and certainly uniformed. Your comments would have been better served as a PM rather than in uniformed tirade against my character. But as most on the board understand: Consider the source.

If I had a part that I was selling I would take a nice of the parts before boxed up to ensure it was that quality that the person exspected. I would also be quicker to resolve a problem than 6 weeks.
Just my 2 cents.
I also wouldn't put down the interigity of another member If I didn't know them personally

Sometimes an ordeal like this happens. Am I the best seller on this forum? Hell no...and I'll tell you right now I'm slow to ship, sometimes I'm a day or two off of communications, or just let it be said I'm not as fast as most folks to ship a part if I sell something, but by god, if I send a bad part, OR it's something that was misrepresented, etc...I will make good on it.
Anyone can and will eventually make a mistake....it's the following actions of those individuals that determine their humility and care of other people's money/parts that matters.
I've made a couple mistakes...but I worked them out, and we've moved on. Was it my fault? Yes, and I learned from it. Just be honest, and keep the lines of communication open. Text, phone calls, emails...just takes a few seconds. The crooks and scoundrels are quickly found out and dealt with here. Vinnie and I have had a couple of bad deals, but we're good, in fact, just received a part from him today, sight unseen. THAT'S faith, ethics, and all that good fuzzy stuff.
I'm not taking sides, and I think the OP is on the right track. A negative feedback is pretty serious.
With that said, hopefully the involved parties can overcome this and walk away satisfied. On a side note, Graham and I have swapped, bought, sold, and traded parts freely amongst ourselves and never an issue between us...except for a cheap (free!) way to send heavy parts between us lol

I think there are several things happening here. I will attempt to logic out what i have read so far. 1st, most of this kind of thing is able to be sorted out via PM or a few emails and phone calls. Graham is a decent guy, and i don't believe there was any intent to defraud at any time. Communication is the issue 99% of the time. Either the buyer and/or seller are of different mind about a sale, whether about price, condition, shipping etc. We are dealing with 30+ year old parts, and this stuff doesn't grow on tree's. That being said, any part, no matter how rare or desireable or needed, should be well photographed in good light and buyer and seller should be of one mind about the sale, terms, conditions of said sale. In the digital age, it is really so easy to snap a few clean images from all angles to ensure a proper representation of the item. Uploading takes seconds........its very easy to do now, as opposed to the film days. Sellers need to describe accurately, and buyers need to do their own due diligence on the item they are buying to ensure they are getting what want or need. This is a tight knit group, and there is no need for anything to get personal....we are here to support and help each other, cause until Thunderbirds R US opens, we are the red headed stepchildren of the FORD family. I recently took a bad hit from Hurricane Sandy, and was awed by the offers of help and support here by some members, so i know how good it can be here. Seems like the parties involved are working things out, we should all just try and respect the process now, and wait for an update as to how it was amicably resolved.
