Currently I have to twist my front brake hoses 180 degrees to make them fit in the bracket that holds the hose where it attaches to the lines. I don't like the extra stress put on the hoses. Is there another brake hose I can buy to resolve this? Does the bracket need to be re-located? If so, where? I would assume if I were to relocate the bracket, I would also have to re-route the brake lines and possibly extend them. Yuck! I have not looked to see if I can use the original hoses and brackets with the 95 stang calipers. Can they be used? My old hoses and calipers are in another town and are ready to be put back on the donor car to keep it mobile. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I took a dremel and a grinding stone and cut the hole in the bracket in a couple of areas so the fitting would slip into it enough to be secured. I did this a coupla years ago, but last winter when I finally did the 5 lug, I noticed that the SN95 hoses fit into the modded brackets the same way.
You might be able to find a 5.0 Stang being parted and acquire those brackets, from my experience, up to '95 should work...but since the '96+ cars had the same size brakes (V8 cars, anyway) even those may be usable..
If you go that route, let me know so I can compile the info into my log of stuff ;)
My current brackets are from a 95 Mustang. The flat spot and tab are on the wrong side. I could not get the hoses to fit the original 88 Bird brackets at all. I suppose I could cut that end off, flip it around backwards, and weld it back together. That should do the trick and be the best repair. I just hate welding!
Add another flat spot 180* apart. That is how i do it just saying!!
That kind of makes me feel like an idiot. I'll do that mod when I replace the rotors and calipers. I have a little shimmy and a little bit of a pull. The rotors and pads look like new, but one of the rotors has to be warped. Who knows how old the calipers are.
Yes Chrome i do a lot of disc brake conversions on all type of cars. And those brackets normally are a pain. So i either make new ones or index the old ones. Glad i could help. Thanks
Chrome i was just thinking you might just swap the left and right brackets. I cant remember if that is feasible on your car. But i do that on the camaros. Like i said just file out the necessary hole with a rat tail file and you are golden!
I did the same thing Tom is talking about on both my cars when I switched over the the SN95 brakes. Takes a couple of minutes and no one is the wiser.
