I just got an 88 TC from a friend of mine and while its in great condition overall, there are some minor things to it that are in need of fixing.
i only have one key for the car and it appears that the ignition key does not open the doors OR, there is something wrong with the locks
the keypad works to open the trunk but the buttons for the door locks dont appear to be working nor can I push the locks down they seem to be stuck in the unlock position.. both of them. does anyone have any suggestions?
My ignition key opens my doors
Take the panel off and take a look
Find a person with a parts car and get the ignition tumbler and door locks with the keys.
Door lock actuator motors are frozen which jams mechanism thus prevents key and pad from operating the lock, been there done that with my TC & '87 Mustang I owned...
Remove door panel and actuators, key will operate assuming it's the correct one...
Tom is right. I was reading that as it had mismatched tumbler and door locks.
Yea sounds right
I love this site. Was just looking for info about the locking mechanism cause I was having the same problem as the guy above. Sure enough the actuators were frozen. Popped the rod from the actuator now my doors lock. Now to order new actuators. You guys answered my question before I asked.
its highly likely we know more about these cars than the original shop manuals!
if its on these cars, you are in the right spot
After I put the door panels on my cougar, the door locks wouldn't lock or unlock anymore. Stuck in the unlock position. Turned out the lock washiznitting the edge of the hole in the door. Just thought I'd throw that one in there, but I think its a less likely problem then the others.
