It'll be a flash based flip book, the pages are flying through my scanner's feed tray at 300dpi even as I type this. I'll want to only upload this once, so who has a good file host or ftp where I can plant this thing and link it? Any opinions on sharing it as a torrent? I'd only make the .torrent available here on the forum.
I've discovered enough differences between 87 and 88 that I might do this again with the 87 book if this one turns out good.
UPDATE: Done
Click this link (http://"ftp://ftp.trinom.org/1988%20Thunderbird%20EVTM.exe") to start download for PC version download, or this link (http://"ftp://ftp.trinom.org/88Thunderbird_iEVTM.app/") for Mac.
The torrent thing is a good idea, but I'll bet most here don't use a p2p client...
Photobucket has always treated me well, but not sure how "economical" it would be to upload an entire EVTM via their site..
Photobucket won't work, I won't be uping individual images. It should end up as a flash applet. And it's very likely to be large, as in 200MB to 500MB unless I reduce the resolution.
mine is up on photo bucket,,, see below.
took some time but no biggie.
Thanks in advance, for those that don't have a physical copy of it.
It's good that you have that evtm up, but I'm thinking bigger and more interactive. Clickable links, book view, high resolution, you name it. Fully modernized and interactive.
Google Picasa is good too. It has a nice client and it has no problems with sending the entire directory to their server.
I think 150 dpi is more than good enough.
Halfway done making links! (you have no idea what a milestone that is)
umm, yes i do,,
now consider scanning in the 3500 pages of shop manuals and dealing with their charateristic of being sorta translucent.
Right now I'm scouring the pics in Acrobat pro for things that send you to other pages, highlighting and setting them up as links. I think I know what you're getting at, but it's so far the most tedious part of the project. Once I finish this part I can recheck, and then finalize the pdf. Once finalized, then I get to start converting to a flip book. Right now the pdf stands at 462MB, but I think I'm going to scale the pages down to lower resolution before I'm done.
two thumbs up for you Foe~!!
i was going through the 87 evtm last night preparing for my 20th Relay mod for marker, hi beam, low beam and start when i found an error. the evtm had me running in circles. I still cant find fuse link M called out on the page with the start circuit.
see if yours has the same same issue as mine... fuse link M . As in-- look for a text page that tells you its location.
good work man! cant wait
Adobe should be a good program to use and for many years to come, meaning it may have a pulse for a long time before the next and big thing comes along making it obsolete.
The sheer number of links is making my head spin, but I should be done linking tonight, tomorrow I'll make a second pass to find any I missed, and maybe by Friday I'll be finished. I've only got 1Mb upward bandwidth, so I can't say when it'll be available on the web.
Surprise! I finished tonight! Looks good except for the demo mode watermark in the middle of the ed thing. I'm going to make it available anyway, if you've got a bittorrent client like utorrent, azureus, or bitcomet then you're all set.
Click the Magnet link (http://"magnet:?xt=urn:btih:5DB5F6DE5EBA07AED9BE8EFDB6E651999D096BDB&dn=1988%20Thunderbird%20EVTM.exe&tr=udp%3a//tracker.openbittorrent.com%3a80/announce")
File size is 331MB, and I've got a 1Mb upward connection, so be patient. Once you're done, let it seed so the next guy can get it faster.
Thanks you. I'll seed this mother till my PC stops. In other words, forever.
Again, thanks. I have a physical paper copy, but I'll seed and hopefully help you and others along. :)
i have no f'ing idea what im seeding or what seeding is for that matter but if seeding is good then seeding ill do.
does it require me to use my mower if it gets too tall?
LOL, Scott, do you have a torrent client?
I'd guess you don't since you have a bandwidth cap.
Depending on file size, one could put this on a cd or dvd and keep it around, or use it on a pc that's not 'net capable.
And it's a standalone .exe file so you don't need anything to run it.
Im aware of torrents on the web ,, figured they were similar to FTPs but a little different.
I ran an "EVTM" lotto a few years ago, search it here..... i burned CD's of the 87 and mailed out a few dozen to members. Honestly, i cant see why this thing you got is so huge,, i was thinking it would be like 60mg, like mine is.
Now most peoples machines may descriminate against an .exe depending on thier virus protection settings,, dono. either way, im on Hughesnet Gen4, pretty satisfied with it other than latinency.
10mg down, 1.5mg up , really good speeds for being in the boonies. My transfer rate is like 550 to 900kbs or something like that, latinency is the killer, 600ms...thats where real copper has me beat.
Its so large because they were 300 dpi scans that i reduced slightly. I wanted to optimize for high resolution displays like retina display macs and large displays over 1080p. The unreduced images made it over 800megs originally. That and the several hundred embedded links. It looks great on my 1080p monitor.
In order to use this, I am gonna have to fire up a VM with Winblows running on it... but thank you Foe for the effort.
Its not that hard for me to make a .app for mac guys. Once I get some other guys seeding, I'll make one for mac. Anyone worried about torrents shouldn't be, I'm using magnets and dht, so there are no trackers or hosts involved. You're getting it straight from me or one of the guys.
ok, so im sharing a folder on my machine basically? correct?
well, in that case, it matters which machine so the processor speed is important.
i think my son has a torrent, will check, cant wait to see this thing
I can bittorrent from my phone, so it doesn't take any horsepower. Its not like kazaa where you share a whole folder, you just share the file.
Its kinda wierd, I have my µTorrent Mac running (the same client I have been using for well over a year. Thus far...nada, nothing. I can see one seed (not connected) and 4 peers (one connected). I'll leave it over night and see if this gets better... Assuming that everyone who is supposed to be sharing has their hosts, router and perhaps firewalls setup correctly.
I just opened up the torrent to unlimited up speed, but so far, see no upload activity from it..
Hmm. Having downloaded over 4TB and uploaded over 12TB in the last 5 years, I am pretty sure that it isn't my setup... ;)
appreciate all your hard work and thoughtfulness, remember my comments from the other post.....
caveman rules in situations like this. granted it could be more complicated than your making it but a 3 to 6 hour solution is waiting. Good news is , you already have the pages scanned so now you could be done in about 20 minutes.
I'm downloading it now.
That works and looks good. The watermark kinda sucks though. It's uploading now. I don't know where, I don't see any seeds?
The watermark does suck, and it'll take a hundred bucks to get rid of it. It didn't seem like the project was worth buying a license for the software.
I need a good FTP to make it simpler to share. The more that download and in turn seed, the faster it will be for those who download, but right now we're just getting it off the ground.
My DSL sucks and has been in and out for a week. I've got fiber at work, I'll move over to my laptop and keep seeding from there. I've got 15 up at the shop. I'm cooking a .app up for you this morning.
I rescued 81, 82, 83 and 83 supplement TBird/Cougar EVTMs from the trash today.
Nice.By chance, you happen to have any 84 and 89 Mustang EVTMs laying around?
Thanks to Trinom, FTP hosting is setup. Now I've got nice, easy, universal click links in my sig. Enjoy.
Hmm, access denied. I would guess anonymous login would work, but I tried the standard logins:
User: anonymous
Pass: password
User: anonymous
Pass: anonymous@blow.me
Give me a minute, I will fix it...
Here is the Win file - http://trinom.org/www/foxtbirdcougarforums/1988_Thunderbird_EVTM.exe (doesn't work on Win XP)
and the Apple directory (zipped) - http://trinom.org/www/foxtbirdcougarforums/88Thunderbird_iEVTM.app.zip
I asked Foe if he can send me the original images, these two files are totaly useless for me, because I can't open any of them on my computer with Win XP.
Maybe you'd like the original .pdf instead of the raw images. Thw file is smaller than the raw images, and the .pdf contains all the linking, but with none of the flash and page flipping. The .exe was made from the .pdf.
No, I need the original JPG files. I'm using also my phone to open these files and JPG images are much easier to use. I hope you didn't scan it as PDF.
Uploading to ftp now, as EVTM.rar. I hope you've got a hell of a phone, they're all in the neighborhood of 3140x2550. I originally scanned at 300dpi as .tiff, then saved as .jpg as I finished cleaning and fixing. I dumped them all into Acrobat Pro, and then built all the links. After the .pdf was done, I used flip pdf pro to make the final product. Even the .pdf alone functions well as an eBook.
Don't worry, I will resize it as a batch to aprox. 1 MPx. That's good enough.
I finally got the app downloaded, thanks for the hosting Trinom and of course thank you Foe for the effort. The app works fine, I only noticed the "demo" nag screen getting in the way when whatever I was looking at happened to be underneath it... Is there a way to make that go away once the SWF is built or is it permanent?
as far as I know, it's permanent. However if you zoom, you can move the page around and see whats underneath. If I can dig up the scratch, I'll buy the program and reissue the EVTM.
i clicked on the 88evtm link and it said "object not found"
Try again.
needs user name & Pw,,
neither of which i know
My mistake, I cut off the link.
looks better, now wants to offer a binary file download,, will do this during my free fair access policy time during 1am to 7am unlimited.
i dont have a daily limit, do have a monthly limit and sitting on 2.5G remaining to cover me for the next three days and no telling what stuff my sons's homeschool stuff might require.
got it downloaded,
looking at it, you did a hell of a lot of work man! the links are fun to use.
question,
looking at the PDF, how do i save individual files, looks like its not gonna let me
that would be an important ingredient when posting help here if individual pages cant be extracted.
I'm going to batch resize all the files and place them into one ZIP file on my server and also place the whole folder to my picasa gallery.
i mean "individual pages"
what i can do is
ctl + prtscn
open paint, and paste,
cut and trim then save as a .jpg
one page at a time which isnt a problem. would be the same amount of time or less than scanning , less motions so to speak.
Here is the ZIP file with complete EVTM (just a bit smaller images) - http://trinom.org/www/foxtbirdcougarforums/88_EVTM.zip (50 MB)
And here is the link to the picasa gallery - https://picasaweb.google.com/116504312330534460153/88EVTM?authkey=Gv1sRgCL7MkOTR59jshgE
If you want individual pages, then it's not a problem. You can download them from picasa gallery.
about five or so , maybe more, years ago this kinda stuff was taboo, i thought i was gonna get sued or something by a random passer by on this board.
just c00ch down the 87evtm in my link and you'll have 3 of em!
I think these documents are quite old now and you can't buy them new, so don't worry about any problem :hick:
my god, you got like a deck of cards.........
humm,, a full deck would be 83-87,,
and foe saved all that from the dumpster to!
im gonna get the 86 & 88 uploaded to photo bucket for some redunduncy,, just incase ...... if thats ok with you two?
Do what you want. I think that 87 and 88 are almost the same. 86 compared to 88 is a bit more different.
If you want, you can use my image links in your sig too. They are more visible than the plain text.
I only grabbed 81 to 83 along with the supplement for the 83. 84 and 85 weren't there. I think I might start over from friendlier scans. 300 dpi sucks on lower resolution displays. After that I may start on my 87 book. I found a freeware app to make the flipbook with.
i dont really understand,,
i scanned mine 300dpi,
then opened with Microsoft picture manager ,,
then reduced is size by using the down arrow for "percent of original size".
mine are pretty clear on my pc.
what i didnt know was that photo bucket must assume your a dumb ass and it thinks it has to resize them again.
ive noticed that one file on my machine might be 250kb but the same file up there is reduced even further.
I have the actual book, but having the individual scans on the 'puter will make it easy to post a page when a question comes up.
Good job !!!
I'm scanning at 150dpi and it's more than good enough.
I have an 85....
