How can I tell if my 86 Cougar is an LS or a GS? What are the differences??

Look at the VIN.
Compare it to the info on CoolCats.net

VIN doesn't tell anything about the model, 1983-86.

LS had the different door panels, chrome rocker molding, chrome strips on the B-pillar, and the electroluminescent coach lamps, along with LS badging on the taillight.
There are other things also (full trunk liner with trunklid piece, thicker carpeting).

It was not possible to get these items on a base GS, so if your car has them, it's an LS. Otherwise it's a GS.

Thank you..Now I know that I have a GS. I haven't seen any others on the streets around here in long time so there's nothing to compare it to. I appreciate the information.
