Title: T-5 fluids......
Post by: vinnietbird on October 27, 2012, 10:36:02 PM
I'm going to drain the T-5 before I re-install it, and fill it when it's back in the car with fresh fluids. How many quarts does that thing hold. I do not remember those specs.

For some reason, 3 quarts of Ford automatic tranny fluid comes to mind. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I am also thinking 3 quarts, my tranny guy told me to run 50 weight engine oil instead of ATF fluid.  He said that it will extend the life of the tranny with the thicker oil and the oil wont break down as fast.

I'm currently running gm syncromesh fluid, seems to be pretty smooth.

I may do that. No 50 weight. I'd be afraid of something going wrong. LOL. My luck with the Sport lately.

I have always used the Ford synthetic auto trans fluid, will not break down and gives excellent wear and great shifting. T-5's and gear oil do not get along....

I put a quart  bottle of Lucas ATF non-slip stuff in mine then the Ford ATF.  Seems to be fine after a couple thousand miles.
