Title: Hissing Noise
Post by: Jays88Bird on October 22, 2012, 11:48:59 PM
I was wondering if you guys could help me. My '88 TC makes a horrid hissing noise between shifts (5spd) and when letting of the throttle (typically in the lower gears 1-3). Is this a wastegate problem? The TC tends to miss when boost is full until I get off the throttle and get back in it. Then it runs great. I'm new to the turbo world so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Does it have a blow off valve?

Nope. Bone stock. I actually paid a little more attention to the noise and it doesn't seem to be a hissing noise like I first thought. It sounds more rattling noise. It only makes the noise between shifts (usually 1st - 3rd gear) and when I let off the throttle (again, usally only in gears 1-3). Someone mentioned to me that the wastegate might need repaired but he wasn't sure either. I can't find anything loose on the car.
