Title: ballast near starter relay
Post by: 83TB on October 12, 2012, 02:50:40 PM
I pulled the harness from my parts car.  I noticed the red/blue wire that has a factory type push female end to connact to starter relay.  the harness had two of them hook together at the plug, I split the harness and noticed one went back to a ballast resistor and on the other end of the resistor was a wire that went to ground.  I started to look for this in my 83tb and only found one red/blue wire and they cut it for a starter kill for an alarm system.  i am not using an alarm so i am wondering why the two wires on one harness and only one on the other?  I could not find this resistor on the harness in my car.  Is this going to prevent me from anything, I am using a 6al box, so any thoughts on this.

It's a diode. It protects the ignition switch contact that goes to the starter relay from arcing.
Starting with the 86 EVTM they show it built into the relay
