Title: Champion Rad leaking right outta the box.
Post by: canadiancarguy on September 09, 2012, 07:23:27 PM
I got my champion aluminum rad with dual electric fans installed a couple weeks ago, and I have been losing water ever so slightly at first (I thought it was coming from where I bypassed the heater core, but I was wrong), now it is leaking at a good rate. Sounds like it is coming from where the end tank is welded on at the upper rad hose side. Gotta take it out and do a pressure test hopefully it can be fixed. I had a similar problem with a be cool radiator from my camaro, I guess it happens from time to time with these aluminum rads, I have also had bad luck with aluminum intercoolers as well. Anyways hopefully the seller backs his product up.

I have heard about a 50/50 mix on the Champion radiators.  They are cheap and when they work you knock a home run and when they don't you can end up paying more than the savings were worth.  Hopefully the seller sends you a new unit with prepaid shipping for the return of the faulty unit.

The place I bought the rad from wants me to send it back and have em look at it, but I think I will just get it repaired locally and save them the trouble. The shipping back and forth would cost more than what I paid for the rad. I really got to hand to Champion they will back their stuff if they have to:)

IMO if they really backed their product they would pay shipping and not feel like they have to.  I am just leery of these cheap aluminum offs radiators as it seems you get what you pay for more times than not with them.  Hopefully your fix is easy and cheap so it is still worth it.

++100% Aerocoupe

Welcome to the world of high priced and garbage over seas products. I agree if they stand behind their product they would pick up the freight. This is BS. The money you gave them worked. So why does their radiator NOT WORK. This is BS and we should be bad mouthing them all over the place. I had a similar issue with a Mc Leod bell housing on an LS motor. And a speck clutch in the MIDNIGHTER. Speck also makes a garbage product. We no longer use their products!! They make garbage stuff as well
