I just nailed these from CL for $60 for the set + $50 shipping. These are super nice with caps, and refinishing mine would have cost me over $350-$400. I can mod my current set to run a standard size tire and keep the clean originals for car shows and such.

The caps are worth some coin?
, now I feel bad for throwing mine away awhile back...
originality with these cars is going to be key down the road as nobody is repopping anything we need. I don't discard anything. We all wish we had a magic mirror to show us what holds value and whats . I junked a 84 Elan many years ago with awesome parts thinking it would all be available new from the dealer forever.....who knew?
Nice find!
yeah, i got lucky on this one, nice seller too.....
mod the trx wheel,,,? how
last set of TRX i had, the guy down in va beach stretched them on and told me no warranty. thats been like in 93 or something like that.
Here is a link to what i am talking about.....

very cool, those look nice in the 16 inch. your style would look even nicer.
Hi, Im new to the site. Ive had my bird for about 10 years. Ive got a set of TRX wheels I picked up cheap a few years ago. They are a lil rough, and the lips have been curb checked and no center caps. Would be great candidates for a modification project like what is linked. Would be interested in trading them for a spare rim or 2, extra center caps, or solid center caps for my stock 14 inch wheels. Or possibly any other nice Bird parts someone might have I could use. I bought the TRX with intentions of using them, but cant find tires locally for them lol. Was thinking about selling them for s. Saw this post and figured Id offer them up.
wow, not sure what to say.
I love the TRX wheel, that one is really a helava project. i would always worry about the welds though,, thats just me.
No welds at all.....the centers are cut out and then a larger wheel stud is used so the centers can rest on top of the new rim like a wheel cover and when tightened up the lugs hold it in place.
thats even simpler!
sorry i did not read the whole article, nice idea
Alan has the TRX rims modified to run a 16" wheel basicly had the centers cut out and rewelded into a 16" rim
Its a very cool and creative mod, and honors the original design with modern performance.
This is going to look pretty cool :).
Been awhile since I have been on this site.
I have a few pics of the finished T-Bird/ Cougar TRX 16 inch and 17 in. "wheel covers". ( 16 x 8 front and 17 x 8 rear wheels)
Rear tires are 325-45-17 M&H drag radials. (these are the "old" 325's M&H made in 2006-2007) long story.
Fronts are 245-50-16
Yes, I use 3 inch long wheel studs and a second set of lug nuts. My biggest fear was wheel balance and possible torque loss on the lug nuts.
No fear anymore. I have done enough testing and re-checking the lug torque to convince me this is a safe setup. The wheel balance was dead on because the centers are well balanced. They ride nice and the TRX center plus the Center Line wheel weigh exactly the same as 10 hole Turbo Coupe wheels. :D

For fans of the Mustang TRX style, I currently run those on my bracket racer gray '83 Bird in my sig.
Those have a 2500 grit satin finished. Been thinking about polishing them like my T-Bird/Cougar ones.
Rear tires are 295-50-16 on 16 x 8 wheels and the fronts are 15 x 7 wheels with 215 tires.
