In the Buffalo area, need a cheap, solid flat hood to get to Daminc's house. Let me know what you need for it.
It's been 3 minutes already, and nothing.
I have a hood for an 83...
would be better closer to Buffalo. it would save on double shipping
I have one. I was going to modify it but if you need it daminic, it's yours. Let me know.
Whatever Jerry says is good........well....it's good.
might be a little to far to pick up...
looking for something I can pick up for Vinnie's project.
Northern Ohio, Western PA, Southern NY, or around Syracuse (almost central-ish) NY would be the farthest I could go to get it to make it worth while.
If it's within 2-3 hrs of Buffalo, I can pick it up.... Any farther, then Vinnie needs to decide if he can have it shipped to me for a little..... well...... Upgrading so to speak. :D
Come on people.....SOMEBODY is close to Jerry !!!!!!!
If somebody can get a flat hood to Jerry (that's in nice shape), I'll send you a set of finned aluminum Cobra valve covers for an EFI SBF.
I've got the stock one from my Sport, needs paint work, but for some umm..."upgrading" it'd do. Shipping and it's yours...although I have no idea what, where, or who to have give it a ride..
We're trying to avoid two shipping charges (to New York, then to Oklahoma). I am hoping one will show up near Jerry soon.
Gotcha. No worries :)
Got one in Central Mass. :/
that's about a 7 hr drive..
Got a PM of one not too far from Jerry for a hundred bucks at a salvage yard. That may be an option, but IF it's possible, I'd like to see if a member here has one to fess up first.
I got one... It's attached to a cougar though... Also for sale!!
I'll take the hood....if you won't part the car, then find me a flat hood !!!
is the hood rust free?
how much for the car?
Do you mean me?
Vinnie, just got back in town, pm replied to
YEH, I talked to Vinnie about it.
We may have found one....Dansbirds may be the closest answer. waiting for a reply from him.
Vinnie, here is a quick pic of the hood. Its stored away in the back of my garage behind 3 cars so its not the best pic. Its silver in color if that matters. Is that what your after? This came off a car that used the prop rod to stay open not held open with springs at the hinges if that matters. I tried to pm you but it says you have exceed some space deal. Anyways its not in the way at all so if it works out its no big deal and we can coordinate with Jerry with what works for him to pick up.
Let's make a deal. Be gentle.
nice hood
I believe the needed part to swap for the hood is in Jerry's possession at this moment.
Looks like mine, better check and see if mines still there!
I'll get a pic of it today
Glad you got one, Now we need to know why!!!
I can say this: after seeing Jerry's wizardry with other metal work, this hood ought to be a work of art as well lol
Dan, is this what you seek?

It is rust free.. Looking for 800ish. Still a great car but can't do what I want with it.
Well yes and no, it appears the correct small size but appears to be missing what ever would attatch it to the wheel. I dont have anything at the moment so not sure what exactly it would look like, it might possibly have a spring in there also for the horn
That looks to be just the outer cover.
let me look around... I do have the plastic part, but one tab is broken... I think I might have another one somewhere... let you know tomorrow
The plastic and spring should be the same as a TC.
Dan, we found you a horn button with all the locking tabs..... I will have it in my hand for you in about 10 days.
Once I have it, we can set up a day to get together..
Jerry, you can get the hood whenever you need to. If you dont have the horn button then you can just drop it in the mail as I am in no rush for it
Speaking of the horn button, if someone has one that has all of the plastic tabs, I'd be happy to make a mold for replacements.
Crazy88, if you're serious, I'll send you mine. One tab has been broken off, but I superglued it back on....
if you can make those?.... what else could you replicate? what kind of plastic are we talkin about?
or is just the mold your making?
I can make all kinds of small parts like these. I don't have the equipment necessary for large injection molding runs, but small parts runs on smaller pieces like these are practical. On parts like these, which will take some amount of stress and abuse, I would probably use an angel hair reinforced epoxy resin. The most difficult part of course, is the mold making process.
I had also seriously considered stepping up with a one piece HID headlight for '87-88 Thunderbirds and Cougars, but in order to accomplish that size of a project, I would probably need the header panels, with at least the headlight buckets intact, from both a Thunderbird and a Cougar and of course some degree of confidence that such a product would find a welcome market.
I could supply the cat front, How much demand is a big ??. Count me as 1. Big Question is whats going on with the hood, always a secret when vinnie is involved.lol
lol... you know Vinnie.... always a secret
I also have an extra header panel with lights..
how about interior parts like the cups on the door handles?,.... maybe other interior panels? a gauge pod really made for our cars, or other custom mod parts
There are initial costs of making the short run molds, therefore being able to recover those costs is something of a concern. A small run of 10-20 would very likely cover those initial costs.
I can make molds for just about anything, but some things, such as items with textures, complicate the mold making process, especially with regard to short run molds. short run Injection molds are typically made from aluminum and those would need to be outsourced, or the quality of the piece would suffer and as a result, the cost per unit would be higher. Would you provide me a picture of the "cups" you're talking about? With regard to the gauge pod, are you referring to a pillar pod or something else entirely? If a pillar pod, do all of our cars use the same pillar or is that something specific to generation, e.g. '87-88, etc.?
The clear facia of the one piece assemblies would be have to be outsourced to a local shop that has done similar work for me in the past. Their charges are reasonable however and they typically charge me by the hour plus materials. I have watched with interest several others using home made vacuum formed lenses made of acrylic. I believe the material they are using is much too thin for more than a one off piece and will very likely cloud and yellow in a very short time due to oxidation, UV and heat. I think I can make the "cup pieces" with 8 molds, four for each side. What I mean by that is the outer marker and the headlamp would be a single mold, the inner marker would be a separate mold, since these are unique to each type of header panel, one for Cougars, one for base 'Birds and one for the TC.
I have a TC header, so I would need to locate a base 'Bird header panel in addition to both of your offers.
My apologies for hijacking the thread, perhaps I need to create a new thread for this topic, eh?
I don't know if those pillars are all the same on all the cars up to 88.
I can get you a pic of the cups later today.. and maybe other things of interest
Crazy88, hijack all you want. I think Jerry and I have what we need worked out. Please, continue with the mold stuff. I am all good with that.
Crazy88, a small and hard to find-in-good-shae item is the door handle cups for the NON TC style door panels....very hard to find unbroken. Plus they;re small so it souldn't cost a ton to make a mold....I'll take 6. Name your price..any color is fine by me..lol
I think I MAY have some more NOS door handle cups in the garage. $20.00 each.
door handle cup.... 1st time it's ever seen air outside it's sealed Ford baggie...lol

Ah, I see. Those wouldn't be difficult at all to make, though I need to make it clear that they would be made with reinforced epoxy resin. I could probably replace the gelcoat with a color other than black, but matching interior colors without samples would be problematic. Do they need to be flexible at all or would solid be alright? Where to they typically break?
we already found a hood.. so no need for the car... I would feel bad stripping it, and parting it anyway
they break along the thin section, and in the screw hole areas... the get very brittle over time.... if black is the cheapest option, they can be painted to match the interior colors... I've also seen 1 go for around $50 on ebay before
vinnie,
im sure you have a sketch or something as a heads up to share?
Hmm, $50 each sounds pretty ridiculous to me. Being textured, I would need a decent left and right piece to make the molds with. They don't have to match (colorwise), but every unrepaired flaw in the "originals", will be present in the new parts.
Of the hood? It's just a flat silver hood.
I can send only one mint cup...it's yours as long as I get one back somewhere along the way.... I may also have the other on my 87. I can check
maybe we can put some flames on it too
Don't send anything Jerry. Wait a week. I may have a couple I can send. Keep your red ones stashed.
IF some new ones can be made, I want mine back and a free pair, or two free pairs of the new ones. If color is available, I'd say make them in gray. Easy to cover if necessary.
Yes!!!............But no.
what about real flames that shoot out a scoop?
...........only if it made a really loud screaming sound when the flames are being thrown.
I have what you seek, Dan

WOO-HOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The parts trade circle of life. The scenic route version.
Do you guys still need this hood?
Yes...... sorry, my wife just opened a wellness center last Saturday...got a bit busy with the grand opening ,and the aftermath.......
Glad I could help. Vinnie, Jerry, and Dan!
The hood has been retrieved !!!!!
