I've found 2 styles of console lids, the first one is what's on my 88 Cougar right now, and the second one Is what I see on everyone ELSE'S Cougar lol. ARe these styles interchangeable?

The top one is a 83-86 T-bird/ Cougar lid, the lower is 87/88. They will interchange im 90% sure, but for correctness those are the proper years.

yeah i thought that might be the case...but I have no idea how the hell the guy got the 83-86 style lid in cinnabar, i thought that was a 1987-88 color?

Honestly, I have never found rhyme or reason as to which cars got which lid after 1984. For 1985-86 some got the flat style, others got the colored/taller style. The flat style was 1987-88 exclusive as far as I know. As always, there can be exceptions to the rule, and that wouldn't surprise me one bit. I always tell people that if they're installing a console, use the lid that you like better, because it really doesn't matter in the end.

Well either style would do for me...only problem is, the bottom half of mine (colored style) is all broken, and I cant find a replacement :/

Yeah, those are tougher to find with unbroken bottom sections.

I think Ford must have switched midway, because my '87 has the earlier style in black. It was built in 12/86.
