Well been awhile since I posted here, but here's what the cougar looks like now.

Wow.  That is sweet!  I hope you keep the boost down.

Is that an On3 turbo kit?

That looks like On3performance standard 5.0 kit.  Im during the 351w swap with the on3performance kit.  Of course my car was an originally a 1986 2.3T car.  What are you doing for fuel management?  Being the stock injectors for the SO 5.0 are 14lb if memory serves.  Is your kit newer?

I got the startup chip (and it is almost bang on), 42lb injectors with calibrated maf. Did the mass air conversion, still gotta do the fuel pump, but it is not leaning out according to the wide band, so I am assuming that the fuel pump has already been done. The kit is one of the older kits, with some upgrades.

Im impressed....what is the power band like?  stock AOD?  When you upgraded to E7 you already put headgaskets on it.  Is that the front of a black SC I spy in one of the pictures?

Not stock aod at all, it is built with 2600 stall converter and 5k Trans Go shift kit. Also turbo coupe 8.8 rear with new posi and 3.73's. No I did not upgrade my heads they are stock non ho  (For some reason I thought they were E7s). No that is not a SC, but I got one of those too in dark blue

That is NHRA approved, I am selling them for $100 a piece:)

On parade days you can just hang the excess length out the hood and you have a very nice streamer:)

Stock wastegate setting, 8 to 10 psi, it depends what gear you are in, higher gear more boost for some reason...

The higher the gear the more load is put on the engine....ie higher boost.  Manual boost controllers are known for that.  Also higher boost in cold weather.  8-10 psi fluctuation isn't no big deal IMHO!

What exhaust?

It is no big deal, all my turbo cars are open exhaust. I am more annoyed at the vibration from solid mounts and poly bushings than the exhaust. Once the car got tightened up the body groans everywhere you can hear it flexing around the doors and the motor vibrates like crazy. When the transmission shifts under light load the whole car jumps and clangs. Would have done things a little different if I would have known. Under WOT the car skates all over the road when it upshifts, except OD that one sucks and always shifts premature.

Got to love the AOD(not)  Although lots of people have had great high performance luck with them....electronic tranny controls are a good thing nowaday.  Its great that we can make them work in are old tbird/cougar fox cars....its amazing.  If you think about it.

Third gear and od seem way too far apart. Totally kills the performance. The car goes from accelerating like crazy to bogging out and waiting to build boost again, it might just be the way the trans disengages while shifting to od. I am going to be upgrading to a trans brake valvebody and getting a 3200 to 3500 stall 10 inch converter over the winter, that should take care of launching. As it is I can't launch with any boost right now. In a couple weeks their will be another drag race event, hopefully the new rad gets here and I get some time slips.
Title: added some more stuff
Post by: canadiancarguy on August 12, 2012, 10:05:43 PM
I added some rocker panel decals today. Some people think its cool, some think its too much, and some just plain old laughed at me, but who cares, I like it, but the cops sure started following me around ever since I put the checker flag stuff on. Maybe someone tied some donuts to the bumper, but man are they on me today.

Good looking car, but you are an inch away from going overboard with it.

Yeah, I was kinda leary of putting that rocker panel stripe on, but it's growing on me. I was thinking of making a set of one piece lights for the front, but we will see, I think some GTS headlight covers will be good enough. Time for the stereo now....

Yee-haw!  Yep, your almost up to hillbilly specs... all that is missing is the push bar, rebel flag on the roof and NASCAR stickers holding the bondo on. ;)  I am just joshin' yer 'tater o'course, but really.  It is on the verge of something...

I've said before...these cars don't take to visual mods as well as Mustangs do. It has to be done very carefully, and modestly.

Meh. Checkered flag ANYTHING doesn't work on these cars. Neither does large expanses of chrome or highly polished wheels arches, and all that ricer jazz.

Tell me more about the car that's backed in behind the Cherokee. I think the rocker stickers would look more natural on that. (If it's the car I'm thinking it is, some came out the doors with some god-awful gaudiness applied to the sides..)

Not trying to hurt your feelers, but in a nutshell, it's a gorgeous car, the thundercat logo is almost a bit too much, the rocker stuff is about a mile past that. It's YOUR car though, and i won't whine about it anymore now :)

The car behind the cherokee is a 92 Nissan Skyline that ran low 12s with the clutch slipping the entire track both runs never made a third clutch got too bad. I haven't bothered racing it again since the new clutch went in.

I guess I will really be a hillbilly when the side pipes go on....

I guess the pictures explain it ALL!

One of a kind intake manifold made for a guy in Houston from Dyers blowers 10 inches tall. Total height above the top of the block will be a grand total of 26.5 inches. I stole the 2 750 quick fuel blower carbs from my BBC blower setup, but I am thinking of replacing them with some 600s. As you can see from the size of the blower pulley it is setup for low boost on pump gas. I got another pulley for the track. No more waiting for the turbo to spool up. Trying to get a turbo rebuilt was the last straw, and no where to tune, just got sick of it all for the time being. And no more 94 octane, only py fuel that blew my skyline up.
