http://www.woodyscarsite.com/2011/03/ford-thunderbird-reinvented-right-way.html IMO it looks cool, much better than the 2002-2005 Tbirds. Have a ecoboost 4 cylinder being the Turbo coupe and a De-tuned coyote 5.0 would be awesome, change up the front and rear lights and I'd go and buy one.
imo it's awesome!!
With RWD or AWD I would buy one.
Before I even read the article below the pic, I knew it was an '87-'8 roofline plopped down on a shortened Taurus body.
IF Ford ever remakes the Thunderbird, it should be a modern, clean sheet of paper design that doesn't evoke some long ago car that only a few could afford, nor should be an 80's throwback. It should be contemporary, but not cookie cutter, and fairly luxurious with some power and braking to match. Of course, isn't that what Lincoln is about? Only, without the power...
I don't want to see a future 'Bird based off of our beloved Foxes. They could never re-imagine what the shape and the body lines are onto a new car. Can't be done.
I also don't want some retropuke design with a noticeable lack of flight such as the last version had.
Since they'd no doubt give us a car that would have either balls or beauty, (but not both) leave the Thunderbird where it is: a legend to be revered, and not a laughingstock in the future.
I've said it before, but I wish Ford would get the cajones to build a Corvette competitor under the T-bird nameplate. Start from scratch and build something with the sole purpose of beating the 'vette at its own game. IRS, blown modular power, 6 speed, luxurious interior. Two-seater only...use the formula of the original T-bird but modernized.
I don't even care if its something I can never afford to buy as a new car, I just want to see Ford build a "halo" car that will get worldwide respect. I guarantee it would drive more people to showrooms to buy Mustangs and Fusions if it were successful.
There was word of some people saying the new Gt40 would be replaced as the Thunderbird, as that would be cool Ford seems to be too caught up with the Mustang as their flagship car. Which is cool and all but just like you said 50tbrd i don't think they have the cajones. And I totally get what you're saying TbirdSport no one wants to see a rehashed 80's cars with flared fenders and new headlights/tailights, but it does look cool. Another concept drawing which is kinda cool but the taurusbird looks closer to my heard just cause it looks like a fox. http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2010/05/designer-revives-ford-thunderbird-with.html
IMHO ford will never build the Tbird/Cougar in the same style as our cars....the new Mustang is now about the same size as our cars. You can now get all the cool options that our cars had(that mustangs didnt) in the mustang now. It suchs....
Travis
Definitely looks better than that atrocity they produced in early 2000's! :D
I'm sure 99.999999 percent of people would say that.
I totally agree, go back to the formula that whooped the vette's ass in the 50's. I hear Ford has a new chassis in the works with IRS(supposed to be lighter than current mustang chassis and better balanced)...couple that with an EcoBoost 5.0 turned up to "kill"...good times...or even just the Trinity 5.8 with a blower like 50tbrd said...but make it Direct Injection, allowing a few more pounds of boost with no added heat penalty. Too bad a group of us can't be engineers/designers for Ford...lol...we might just bankrupt them by building awesome stuff we want that nobody else cares about!
I'd have to see more pictures. It doesn't have that instant appeal for me but maybe I'm not seeing something. Actually, the only instant thought that comes to mind is it looks like a new Chrysler.
I don't like that roofline either. The high part is too far to the rear more like a four-door rather than a two-door. I'd have to chop the sail panels bringing the high part of the roofline at the front and a slowly sloping roofline for the majority of its length.
