Title: WTB Keys and locks (ASAP) and few other things
Post by: Trinom on July 14, 2012, 07:39:21 PM
Hi guys,
I've just bought '85 TC and it has busted ignition lock cylinder. What's even worse, the previous owner lost the only keys he had (he had them last time I visited him). So I can't lock the car and it has permanently switched the ignition on (I had to disconnect the battery). Hopefully it is on the workshop parking lot, not on the driveway.

Here is the list of other parts I'd like to buy, but I don't need them as fast as the locks and keys:
- Door handle screw covers - black (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29787&d=1340458061") ... I asked rodsterh, but he doesn't react.
- cornering lamps and fender trim with hole (compatible with '85 TC, not 87/88) + lamp socket with pig tail.

Hey you might be able to find the lock and ignition cylinders on ebay, not sure about shipping also the door handles are on ebay too. There are a few 83/86 cars in the junkyard near my house and they might have the the cornering lights.

I wasn't able to find those lock sets on ebay, that's the reason why I'm asking here.

Like I said there is a nice 85 Thunderbird Heritage that I know has cornering lamps. I dont know how much it would cost for shipping though, but I send stuff to relatives in Lithuania and it usually cost $60
 dollars for medium sized packages.

So i guess there isn't like a full set with with 1 key but you can put one together unless someone else has a whole set.

Well, I know about these locks, but I'd like to have just one key for doors and ignition. I'm going to swap one door lock from my red TC to be able to lock the car before I get whole set.

I did react, but you didn't respond. :hick:  Must be the time difference.:D

I sent you a PM...

I think the door pull covers you are looking for would be dark blue like I have, not black.  Don't think there ever were black door pull covers??

Good luck on your parts chase, we'll help you out as much as we can!

Thanks, PM replied. I have raven interior, so dark blue should be OK, as I mentioned in the PM.

Do they not have locksmiths where you are at? I had the door lock problem when I first got my 84 T/c. Not sure about the 85's but 84's have one key for doors and a different one for the ignition. All I did was take a door lock out and brought it to a locksmith. He made me a key to work it. Took my new keys home and they worked both doors, the trunk and glove box. Now with being where you are not sure about getting parts without paying tons for shipping and the like. So I would tell you should be able to do the same thing with the ignition lock. If you lived here in the states I would tell you can buy all that stuff at your local parts store.

Hope that helps out

Unfortunately no. Even Ford dealers don't have any parts for american fords. And european Fords uses different keys and locks.

Console mirror switch found in the garage, so I don't need it, but I've found another part missing - passenger door lock panel. I have the lock/unlock buttons, but I don't have that panel. I thought I have spares for both sides, but I've found only the driver's side.
