Title: New DD for me
Post by: 1BadBird on June 15, 2012, 10:45:32 PM
I know it's not a Bird but I couldn't pass it up. A little history on the car. My boss has had it for 4 yrs. After he put a new front bumper cover on it, the owners never came back for it. Evidently they left for a good reason, it had bent vavles in both heads. He had them replaced after the car had sat for 2 yrs. Car started up and ran good for a little while then ran like garbage. Gee I  wonder why....... old stale gas. I come onto the scene and inquire about it after being there for a few months. I checked it out, found it barley wanting to run, then fuel pump dies. Changed it out and while apart, I drained all the old gas and replaced it with fresh stuff as well as some fuel systems cleaner. Well it started but rough. Ran a scan with our diagnostic scanner..... no codes, but the check engine light still comes on. It has gotten alot better but still not perfect. Enough of my ramblings here are some pics of it.

I used to build those along with the Sebring coupe, Mitsubishi Galant, Endeavor, Eclipse and the Eclipse Spyder here in Bloomington/Normal Illinois.  Those share the same chassis and drivetrain as the Eclipse unlike the Stratus sedan or convertible.

Thats a minimal option R/T you have there, usually the R/T's had power cloth or leather seats ,power moonroof, Infinity sound system and either autostick or 5speed. It has the v6?

Yeah.....I remember those.  If it had a 5 speed it was a complete mitsu drive train....  I always thought those where nice cars......for a dodge :)

Ya, It would be alot more fun if it had the 5spd. It has the Infinity sound system, 3.0 V6 and, according to some paperwork I found, it has the mitsu auto trans but not the auto-stick. I do have to find and install some new fog lights and replace the emblem.

Beast50, When you built them, did the door tags you all put on say assembled in the US or puppiesan? I'll double check tomorrow but I'm positive mine says puppiesan.

Look under the hood, i believe there was a build tag under there. The drivetrain was made in puppiesan but Im pretty sure we built all those. If by chance they did make it in puppiesan, it would have a bunch of wierd red an orange reflectors on the fenders.

What was your build date?

Not bad little cars, dissapointing that they did not recieve ANY advertising when we were building them.  That was shortly before Daimler Chrysler and Mitsubishi parted ways.

I worked there from 1999-2004; was layed off along with the entire second shift.

I hope it does well for you, I know the Eclipse has quite a following for modifications, might have something to tinker with if you get bored.....5 speed swap??

Build date was June 04. You must've read my mind on the 5 spd swap

I also have the original heads. I''m thinking mild porting, cams? definitely new valves.
