Title: Used Scorpion 1.6 Roller Rockers?
Post by: 88 Blackbird 5.0 on June 11, 2012, 12:57:18 PM
Hey guys.  I'm about ready to buy a used pair of 1.6 ratio roller rockers for the RWB and was wondering if I should look for a good pair of used Scorpions.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

A Pair or a set? Are they polished aluminum or anodized. The "Chrome" appearing polished ones are the older ones. They should be blue. I bought mine used, but very low miles, and they have been great. I had a cracked rocker that I had bought (in a set), and called Scorpion. They send send them a picture. I did. They shipped a new one with hardware that day, for free. Great product, great people who back their product.

In the end, I say grab them if they are in good shape.

Hi Vinnie,

I'm gonna be looking for a set of blue anodized ones.  I haven't found a set yet.  I'm about to start my search for a good used set like you bought.  Thanks for the good info.  I'm a total newb when it comes to rr's.

Ford Racing rockers are also good. They are actually made by Crane. Check over on the Corral There are always rockers over there. If you're not a member there, I'll help you look.

I've been keeping an eye on the Corral so I can get an idea of what good used ones sell for on average (depending on the manufacturer).  Will the Ford Racing 1.6 rockers fit under stock, cast aluminum valve covers the way Scorpion 1.6's supposedly will?

As far as fitting under stock valve covers, I cannot confirm nor deny. Now, are you talking stock steel valve covers, or stock aluminum Mustang covers? If they are steel, I have a set in the garage they will fit under. The covers came from a crate engine and have never been on a running engine in a car. Practically brand new.

I've got a pair of the stock aluminum mustang ones I'd like to use.  If I have to remove the baffle and do some clearance work to get the rockers to fit, I'll do that.  I'll try one of those thick valve cover gaskets from Moroso first though.

I'm gonna send you a PM in a few by the way.  :)

Bring it on. As far as the gaskets, I've seen many stack a pair of the regular cork/rubber style with great results. Plus, the two sets are cheap, and thicker than the Moroso gaskets.

Uh oh!  He just sent me a pic of them.  They're the silver-colored rockers.  If you can give me your email addy, I'll send you the pic to see what you think.  :(

Just because they are the original style doesn't mean they are bad.

Just ask him to double check around all of the rollers on the tips for cracks. If they are crack free, and the fulcrums and rollers are in good shape, shouldn't have any worries.

I got the email and replied. Ask if they have the pedestals with them. If so, great. if not, ask him to take a few dollars off.

He told me there is NOTHING wrong with them. I'd grab them.

I have a set of blue Scorpions on my truck. Had to use tall valve covers with no baffles to make them fit. I have World heads, so these are stud mounted rockers. Other than clearance problems, I can't complain. Then again, I have not had this set up long.
