Hi Group..I'm in dire need of a camshaft and followers for a turbocoupe; my mechanic says none are available. I'm assuming he means through normal outlets, but what about aftermarket or high performance suppliers? Any help...etc.
All situation parts stores will have the Cam and followers. Most of us Turbocoupe guys have gone to the 94ish ranger roller Cam. The Cam is about $85 and the followers about $12 each if you buy new.
Do you have a part number or anything I can get for my mechanic? I can change oil and plugs, etc...but I let the heavy stuff for the experts. Thanks for your help.
Their are hundreds of cams for the stock 2.3 FORD. I use custom grinds from schneider . BO makes 5 or 6 . And just about every cam grinder on the planet makes at least one or two. If this mechanic cant find a cam for a 2.3 and tells you they are not available run like hell from him. He is totally not familiar with this engine. Pick any cam you want as long as it is a roller. Personally i would not use anything smaller than 460LIFT 220 duration and lobe separation at 110-112* with a stock head.
And normally i run cams in the 530-550 lift area for my street 2.3 the MIDNIGHTER. :hick::burnout:
I agree 100% with Tom, don't trust him. A Cam swap is easy and pretty straight forward.
Thanks guys; I got one through Auto Zone [Melling part #CL-SYB-37A] for $160 complete with followers and lifters. Should be done in a day or two, according to the garages schedule.
Welcome, did you get the roller Cam?
