This image is from the 1983 Thunderbird dealer catalog. It shows the TC tach in the clock position and the dash clock off to the right......never noticed it until today and thought it was a interesting topic....

I've seen that pic on here a few times. It seems like an option that almost made it because 83-84 cars have that extra opening behind the trim panel.
I have an 83 TC and it doesn't have that. Mine has the digital clock :)
oh hold up...yeah idk what that gauge is on the right...it looked like it was the clock...
So that has 2 tachs???
no, speedo, gas gauge in the main cluster, tach in the clock position and clock shifted to the right.......
my 83 TC didnt get that either :(
Either it was very early production, or it was changed right after the brochures were printed.
I don't think any of them got it. Or that steering wheel.
Here is a more clear shot of the 83 dash, and the next is from the 84 brochure.

I believe that was an early production change (dunno if any actually made it into production). I have some old car magazines from late '82 with road tests on the 83 TC and the testers all moaned about the lack of a tach. The test cars obviously would have been pre-production prototypes. Ford may have come up with the clock-tach as a stop-gap solution to the moaning, and then changed again and decided to change the cluster instead
Someone here a few years back was talking about why there was 2 spaces on their dash for a clock....
Now I see why.
Can't remember who posted about it though, but there is a thread about it floating around about it
I can't remember his name, but wasn't the guy who put the mustang dash in his Tbird?
Yea, I think it was...
That at that driver smiling............ :)
You might be thinking about Watchdevil. He did some great work but got mad about something and deleted a bunch of his posts and left. One was a whole discussion about the buttstuffog tach and pictures of the dash. I know I posted some pictures but can't find them on here.
It was a great discussion...too bad it's gone.

The buttstuffog tach has never been seen in person but that steering wheel did come on some cars.
I just happen to have one. :hick:
Anyone care to guess what the 2 items are under the left dash? I say the hood release, and not sure what the other is.......

Parking brake release?????
Fog light switch.
Yep, fog light switch. Definitely looked like an afterthought LOL.
That steering wheel was for non-cruise control cars. I have one.
At 4:00 off the steering wheel the control on the left I think had something to do with the premium sound system. Maybe an amplifier on or power antenna control?
The light to the right of the switch you can't read the label on is foglights activated indicator light that's on the switch.
I've never seen an IP with the tach where the clock is. My 83 looks like the 84 brochure.
Ha! 8-track!!
Bet you'd be hard pressed to find a car with one! :hick:
Like mine? ;)
I actually have the far right dash panel with a beveled cutout in it.
But, the car I got it from was not a turbo and it had a tripminder in the middle and digital clock to the right.
