Title: Ignition switch Pin out
Post by: eazrider on May 04, 2012, 12:57:59 AM
I was having problems with my cooloing fan not working correctly in my 85 TC. After working the coolant fan relay issue, I traced the problem back to no voltage from the ignition switch with the key on. I pulled the cover off the steering column, and discovered the connector on the harness end that plugs into the ignition switch was disintegrating, and several of the wires were moving around providing intermittent connections. I purchased a napa Switch harness repair kit, but, as the harness connector was falling apart, it is unclear which wires (colors) go into which 'slot" on the new plastic harness connector. Can someone point me to where I could find a schematic and/or pinout of how the wires are connected correctly into the new harness end connector. I can't find my EVTM, or my schematic of this section....

One more question: is this looking into the switch...Or,is this looking at the harness end of the connection..?

It is from the 85 EVTM.
I have no personal experience, but it says it is looking at the switch. That would be the same as the harness side of the connector.

You better slave that switch out with a BOSCH 75 AMP relay. Other wise it will happen again!!!

Hi Tom, can you tell me how one would do this? I'd like to do this to mine. Thanks, Herb.

Yes a simple slave relay circuit on the ACCESSORY contacts will keep the switch and harness from overheating. I really should do a post on this because those switches sent many a FORD to the junk yard. FIRE HAZARD
