Title: Birdie Update Time...
Post by: crystal on June 06, 2005, 05:08:23 PM
Here's what I was busy doing the past couple weeks. Please excuse the bugs on the bumper, this is after over 1000 miles of driving in 4 days. Plenty more to come by Cat Jam:

Lol enough air  vents? :)

Just wondering, did you think of making the vents at an angle, instead of parellel to the header panel?

I noticed you have a oddly shaved power antenna.

That's called a "frenched" antenna.  Old hot-rodder term.  I think now you can see the hot-rodder influence Crystal has on her car (as lovers are also a hot-rodder thing.)  It's very unique to see old-school hot rod tricks done on a newer car.  2 million points for doing something other than a cowl or TC hood, Crystal!

Louvers, not lovers  :giggle: The car gets very mixed responses now, people either love it, or can't stand it. I could care less though, it's what I wanted to do.

And it's a manual antenna, not power. Took forever to find that stupid thing...

The louvers would have been even more difficult to have done at an angle. You can't see the bottom of the hood due to an aluminum panel there to keep water out, but there's a lot more work there then just punching a couple holes.

Well I think "lovers" is an old hot rod thing too :rollin:

Very interesting.  Now you need some red steelies with some baby moonos and wide white walls  ;) OK, maybe no white walls...but some custom 17" steelies w/ baby moons would go well with the louvers and the antenna.

if it was black... yeah, but gray and chrome  :yuck:

New wheels are coming though, getting a deal on tires  :D It means lots more work now though

Somethin like this without the whitewall would look good I think.

They put it on a machine that punches them. It's more work than it looks like since the hood bracing had to be cut and re-welded.

Now you need to repaint the car.  Some suede paint or primer only.  Lol old school!

Why would I be painting it again?!

Actually, this car's going to be driven in to the ground and a restart happening when I get re-oriented. My car is a giant rust bucket, it just looks pretty on the outside ;)

So crystal did venting the hood mess up the paint or did you have it repainted after the vents were punched.

The hood has to be stripped to punch the louvers. The hood and Fenders were painted less than a month ago

FALSE!  Primer will NOT protect against rust.  It's far too pourous and it lets air, moisture and anything else in. Can't protect metal from rust like paint can.  Sure, it's better than bare metal, but not by much.

I can vouch for this. Had to sand and re-primer a couple spots on the fender I repainted because I let it sit too long with just primer on.

Well that sucks, I assumed it did what with all the primered cars about and whatnot.
