Had a customer last week with an 88 TC. He has an issue with his ride controll. He wants me to set the system permanently in Firm or performance mode. So looking at the prints their are two relays. One for standard ride and another for firm or performance. So what to do for this guy. He has a 100% stock car and does not want to replace the units with conventional struts. So my thought is to trick the ECM in to firm ride only. Now what is the best way to do it???? Any suggestions. I am thinking of wiring the firm relay on at all times with the key in the run mode. Any other suggestions come to mind??? Just asking!!!

Tom, there's a little rotating switch of sorts on the top of each PRC strut and shock. Each quarter of a turn alternates the strut/shock between auto and firm. You can unhook the actuators, then manually turn the little tab things inside with a small straight screwdriver.
I did this to my PRC shocks and struts when I had them on my previous Thunderbird.
Of course, with them in the TC, it'd be a little harder to tell if they're in firm or auto, but if you push down on the car, you can tell the difference (unless the struts/shocks are shot to hell)
I put mine on firm, then installed them once I was sure they were in firm mode..
And as a plus, there's no cutting or modifying any wiring, and if the owner decided to go back to stock operation, it's simply a matter of reconnecting either the actuator to the top of each strut/shock, or reconnecting the 4 separate connectors...
OK been a while since i worked on one to be truthful. So i think i understand. Manually set the strut in firm. That will be perfect. I will do that and see if it is ok with the owner. So i will have to check which direction is in the firm setting. Should be interisting. Thanks for the TIP. That is a perfect FIX. Thank You
It seems like they only turn one way, but I DO know that each 1/4 turn alternates the modes.
If it's the ride controller itself that's bad, I have one from my '88 TC that I parted in 2006....if you need or want it, it's yours for shipping cost. :)
That is very nice and i will discuss it with the owner. Thank you so much. I have to see how to pull service codes on the system. All Data is no help on this. They do not seem to tell me if codes are in fact available or how to pull them Thanks again.
You're welcome..hope my info helps :)
