So as I posted awhile back that I was replacing my garage due to carpenter ant damage. The project has started and it's gotten to the point where I have a new slab and a bigger apr0n. The guys will be coming out this Wednesday to start building the garage. The old garage was an 18'X22' "1.5" car garage. It was built in 1956 and had a 9' overhead 1 car door and a standard size door on the front. The new garage will be a "2.5" car garage. It will be 22'x22' with a 16' overhead door and a standard door next to it. So now it's picture time.
The old garage.

The old garage is gone!

The pad for the new 22'x22' garage.
A new garage is exciting stuff!
Sweet!
Very nice!!!
Now you will have a proper "man cave". For some reason they must have made tiny garages in the 50's. Mine is a 2-car (built in early 50's) with similar sized doors but you can barely walk around either of my cars. I can't imagine trying to fit a '57 Chevy wagon or something in there.
Noice. Can't wait to start mine...
Sweet, can't wait to see it finished!
My parent's garage was built in the 50's and it's a 20'x22' 2 car. It fits 2 cars fine with enough space to walk around them (my T-bird is in their garage right now till mine is finished). The garage they have is brick, so it's like a small house. I figure they built it long enough to fit one of those 50's barges and stand up if you accidentally backed into the rear wall ;).
A tear down and starting fresh is a great option.
Mine was bullt pre 1925 as a two car: 18X20. Mighty tight in todays world! No option for a tear down, it's considered a "contributing structure" in a historic district.
Lookin good there Lou. Your bird will enjoy it's new nest.
Sweet! That's going to be nice.
It's done! They put the electricity in this morning. I have a bunch more room. With the stuff along the back wall I still have two feet behind and in front of the T-bird when it's parked. Plus now two cars fit in the garage:D. Now I just have to fix the lawn where they dug a trench for the electrical line to the garage. That's Saturday's project.
That was quick! Kind of amazing how a couple feet can make a huge difference in space. Congrats on getting it done.
Looks Great Lou :headbang:
That's cute!! I could fit four of those in my garage....and still have room to spare!
Seriously though....nicely finished.
That is cute......
nice job
Enjoy its yours
The only thing wrong with the pics of the new garage, which looks great by the way, is the Bird isn't in any of them........ LOL
Nice garage!
Looks great, now you need some pics of the Bird in there, lol
I thought about a 32' wide garage so I could have a three car but I would have no back yard. The problem with living in the city is that you only have 48'wide lots ;)
The T-bird is now in the garage, under a cover. I dusted/polished/waxed it today.
But, but what is all that "non-auto" related doing in there???!!!! lol ;D
Then you would have no mower to store or maintain, freeing up time and money for that third car you could have fit!! ;)
Looks good Lou! I might be buying my Aunt's house and it has a 3 car block garage. I'll be so excited to have a real garage for once!
Things I shouldn't put in the basp00get, like a lawn mower. I don't want to carry it up the stairs:hick:.
Then how do I mow the front yard?;)
Brick garages are nice and fairly strong. My parents have a 22'x20' 2 car brick garage that was built when their house was (1953) and it's still in great shape and looks new. They tend to hold up better over time than frame garages. The problem is they cost a whole lot more to build. A lot more. Like twice as much as a frame garage.
Nice. Glad it worked out for you.

You could hire my 2 tortisous LOL They'd do it for peanuts....I mean grass blades.....
You could always hire my 2 tortisus. LOL They would work for peanuts......I mean grass blades LOL
Hell yeah. Garagemahal status: achieved.
I is jealous...
Can I ask how much it set you back?
But it only has one Fox ;).
A little over $11K. Which is how much my neighbor paid for the same style of garage from the same company.....15 years ago. Apparently because these builders haven't had much business over the past few years they are willing to deal.
Thats awesome, I think I would be in there day and night.. If it had a bathroom I would never have to leave lol
Looks good Lou, but where is the insulation and drywall?
Congrats on the new garage, sure it makes you smile every time you look out the back door...
I opted not to have it done as I just store the T-bird in the garage over the winter and don't really do any work on the car at that point. Even with an insulated, heated garage it's too cold to be outside in the winter ;).
I keep finding ways to tinker with the garage, like an over head work light that retracts. It's like a new toy I can't leave alone.
so where are the pics with the cars in it?
That's better.....
That's a done deal Lou. :headbang:
You make me want my Aunt's house even more! I sure hope things work out and then I'll have a nice garage too.
