Title: 3" exhaust with dual outlets
Post by: Jmoore87 on April 12, 2012, 11:43:56 PM
Im trying to think of a (sorta) buget friendly idea for my v6 cougar. I've given up on trying to get any real power from my engine so thats not the reason for this. I just want it to sound good. So i was thinking of trying the single 3" exhaust but dual pipes out the rear. Can anyone weight in on the pros ot cons of this idea.

2.5" is the most you'd need with a V6. If you go too big you'll lose bottom end.

I knew a guy running dual 4" on a 98 v-6 stang. He said he gained all around, lost no power and increased gas mileage. Not sure how he mated it up to the 4", but he pulled the motor for a large stroker, then went back to 6 banger.

Dual 3's on a stock v8 would be bigger than needed IMO
Might be able to find a stock sn95 or new edge catback, have modified to fit, and would flow plenty for cheap.

Save your money and buy two more cylinders. Outside of bragging rights, a 3 inch exhaust on a 3.8 is pointless. Not trying to be mean at all, just wanting to be honest with you.

I would try to fit tail pipes and an h-pipe. I would try 86-93 mustang lx tails and h-pipe, then "headers" for a 94 up 3.8.  If you can make the h-pipe and tails fit, then you can use them on a v-8 car, or if you do the 5.0 swap later.

I don't see any point of running a single 3" then going to dual ler or tips. I would leave it 3" or bigger  the whole way.
