I have found a thread about mass air swaps, but it doesnt give any computer part numbers so i want to make sure im doing this right. i've done many many mustang swaps, but this time its an 86 xr7 Im trying to convert. I got an a9l ecm from a mustang and the mass air sensor and wiring. I just want to make sure im using the right ecm and all and if its wired the same as a mustang. I just dont want to fry the new ecm. Thanks for any help and please try not to blast me too bad. just new to the cougar relm lol
Is your XR7 still a turbo 2.3?
No, its a 5.0 car, but its got afr alum heads, custom cam, gt 40 intake, and other bolt ons. So its Ho firing order. Just want to make sure a9l will work
An A9l will work. I wired my Sport per the instructions from the Mass Air kit I had. There were, if I remember right, 6 wires. Add two, move two, splice two.........Bam, Mass Air.
Did you check this?

In order to do the MAF swap correctly I believe that you will need the wiring (engine/computer) harness from an 86 T-bird or Cougar with a 5.0. I don't know if an 86 Mustang harness will work or not. In addition you're going to need T-bird/Cougar specific fuel lines. I would recommend using the lines from an 87-88 5.0 T-bird or Cougar as they are routed to allow for dual exhaust, where as the earlier cars are not.
Make sure you obtain the correct o2 sensor harness depending on which main harness you use.
