what is it with these cars and the front end!!!! 2 of mine have been hit or hit something (before i owned them).. 1 of BJL's cars was clipped in the front.. geez..
she's not gone though, she could be fixed.. looks like she may need a new k-member from the way the wheel hit the pole.. but this is why i am fully against parents giving, buying or letting their son/daughter buy a nice car for their first.. they almost anyways get wrecked.. poor bird :(
Bummer dude.
Dibbs on the wheels.
That sucks! I agree with Shadow. My kids 1st vehicle will be a POS.
My parents made all of us drive a '81 Olds Ninety Eight for a year until we proved ourself and got our 1st real car. If you would have hit that pole with the Olds, it would have just plowed it over and kept going...that thing was indestructible.
My first was a 79 cougar and I still have it. Sorry about your bird, she was beautiful. I agree that it could probably be fixed.
Wow. That sucks. By the look of that pole, he hit it hard. Was speed (excessive) an issue? So can we assume this is now a parts car?
You know, better yet... make your son get a job to pay for the repairs and have him help do the repairs as punishment. I would hate to see that thing die
I agree that is a nice looking car. I really like the flat black hood treatment. It goes nicely with the color of the car.
He kept beggin me for the last month to drive MY car to school the first day he gets his licinse, I kept saying I don't think so but when he got them on Monday I could see how excited he was. His car(86 mustang) that he/we have been building just got inspected and we havent had the time to really take it out to see how well it would do, so ........I gave in and let him take mine, I laid down the rules and he keeps telling me that he obeyed them and when he turned the corner he hit some gravel and then he tried what he could to gain control but the pole got in his way!! I wish ya"ll could see how he was when he called me to tell me and My wife and I went to the seen, he wasn't even worried about himself, he was SOOOOOOOO upset about what he had just done to my Pride and Joy....Just balling and all I could do was give him a hug and said that I am just glad that he was OK.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc154/flipnbird/DSCF0185.jpg This was before
I crashed my T-bird when I was younger...the car was fixable but my pride was hurt more than anything. It taught me to slow down and pay attention. I am sure he has learned a lot from this experience and will be a better driver because of it!
don't know if you guys have the cinderella license down there or not, but here in jersey, he would have lost his license for that.. glad he's ok, but the poor car :(
Lucky kid.... my old man would've been just short of killing me for that and I'd have walked everywhere until I saved up enough for another car. He would've been driving mine.
Here is an engine pic

He didn't lose his license, and he is wanting to sell his stang to help pay for everything, but he/we have worked so hard on his car I just don't know yet!!
Disreguard the last pic.....
no! lol that's an interesting breather.. and where did you get that little support bracket for the PS bracket? i need a few of those!
thats my sons 86 engine(used to be a 4cyl) and what little bracket you talking about.....the PS bracket itself came off of a lincoln
That was a beautiful car. There is no way in hell I would let either of my boys drive something that nice, without having some time under their "seat" belt. My daughter fender bended my Cougar when she was just learing to drive. Its just part of the learning curve.
Im glad no one was injured.
I say it can be fixed.
the little bracket that goes from the pump to 1 of the water pump studs.. that doesn't look factory lol
yea, i'm still debating if i want to fix it or just get another clean shell and transfer stuff from this one over?????? My brother-in-law has already found another one for $800 with a wore out motor, don't know if it is a sport or not, i may just have to go take a look see!! The wrecked one will need straightened, new k member, fender, front nose, new h-pipe(bent pass. side back), new windsheild just what i can see so far. And they never seem the same after being wrecked so I just don't know yet.
That is actually attached to the PS bracket, it is all one piece. Came off of an earlier model lincoln.
really? i need to go lincoln hunting, than! lol thanks
Sorry to hear about your Bird. It was beautiful! I'm glad you son wasn't hurt. And I probably would have reacted the same as you, seeing he was so upset about it. Now had he had a different attitude about it then things would be different.
With you being able to do the work yourself it might be cheaper to get the other Bird and change everything over to it. Plus it'll give you and your son more time together to rebuild it.
and a long, hard lesson of why you don't crash dad's car LOL i vote fix it if the subframe hasn't been compromised
. :(
Thankfully the junior wasn't hurt, aside from pride.
Hopefully this will stay in his mind in the future.
It can be saved..hell, Jerry built an entire Cougar out of 10 pounds of rust, a few sticks of weldin' rod, and 11 dollars' worth of electricity, lol
Glad the son is ok! That was indeed a gorgeous car! I hit rolled my dad's truck when I was in high school, I literally felt like about it for months!
It really bites when family members destroy our birds. My wife put one of mine out of commission a couple of months ago... :( It was no near as bad as yours though!

^hahaaaaaaaaaahahhaaaa lol :D
i couldn't think of a way to post an audio clip of the dixie horn LOL
Got in there and looked hard yesterday evening and i think she is done....floor board is shoved in a few inches, console is twisted back about an inch, steering column is pushed to the right about 3/4"(from him bracing), pass door is about .5" back. I just think i'm going to look for another clean one and start swaping things over.........I couldn't look at it long, had to cover her back up!
Well, you can build another one. Make it better. We have the technology. Better...stronger... Sorry, had the 6 million dollar man thing going.
Wow....that's sharp!!! Does your the black panel on your hood go over the top of the car and onto the rear deck lid?
No, it was just on the hood. It is actually a decal
Unfortunately it sounds like it's done. At least it can live on in another when you find a good one to replace it with. I'd probably be the same way and not be able to look at it very long in that condition.
Glad everyone is OK. This does remind me that I need to call the insurance company concerning the value of my car now that it's done.
Ya know....I haven't even seen any pics since your car has been done, I must have missed that thread!!
Yea I think that is my plan!!!....but this time it is going to be just like you said....EVEN BETTER!!!! It just sucks that I have to start all over again.
poor bird :(

It's good your son is fine. He's a little harder to replace than a T-bird.
That being said no matter how much he hates it buy him a minivan or another really slow car to drive. I'm serious. No Mustang. I know he was screwing around. When I first got my license I did stupid all the time. It's because he's 16 and feels that he'll never die. That's why my first car was a 1987 Plymouth Voyager with a 2.6 Mitsu I4. It had a 2bbl carb and all of 98 hp. It's really hard to speed or do stupid things in a 98 hp mini van. I know if I had my T-bird for the first year I drove (even when it was stock) I would have wrapped it around a pole..... Kids do stupid things with cars. We all did when we were 16 :D. Now make him pay for the replacement T-bird and to bring it up to the condition of the one he wreaked. That will teach him a lesson.
Collector insurance is a good idea for a car like yours. I have it on mine. If something happens to it I get the agreed value of the car, not a check for $500 from a big insurance company because that's what they say it's "worth".
I can understand the temptation to let your boy drive something like that. I mean, just the fact that he thinks it's an awesome car, is nice to hear by today's standards. I'll remember this as a lesson to quell my temptations when they reach driving age. I wrecked my friend's Mom's 1987 Regal when I was 16. Now that could possibly have been a worse message to relay. I had to tell his Mom face-to-face what I had done... but I still swear it wasn't my fault!
My first car is my '84 Cougar, and there is no way my sons will drive that thing without me in the passenger seat. Let alone that right now it has only 130hp 5.0L. My Dad has a '70 Chevelle SS 396 and I have learned from that car how power is scary. I've only ever been in one accident, but it wasn't my fault and I've only ever spun sideways in any vehicle. People are different and I love my kids, but they would be grounded for life with no parole.
Thank God your son it's ok.
My first car was a 1988 Merkur XR4TI "very hard car"... with 18 year old my life was a dangerous game.
young people have a lot of courage...
the first car i drove was a hyundai accent :giggle: that lasted a week, then i was driving my bronco :) kind of hard to wreck a truck that was built to take a beating with a stock motor, stock gears and 35's LOL
At least your son is alright, cars can be replaced even though it sucks. I'd probably be doing what you're doing looking for a donor body.
That is the most important thing!!!...He keeps asking my wife "wonder when Dad is going to finally break and shove his foot up my ass!!"
 i hope he learned his lesson after all this.. sure, expensive for you, but like matt said, cars can be replaced
I'm sure he has. You can tell he's still upset about it if he's still worried about how his dad feels.
Every day he comes home from school and just stares and shakes his head when he looks at it.....I can't hardly beat his A$$ cuz i know he feels REALLY bad about the whole thing. He offered me his stang, He has also offered to sell his stang to help pay for damages. He has worked so hard on his car that i just don't think i could do that. But i will tell you HE WILL NOT BE DRIVING HIS CAR FOR A WHILE!!!...I WILL!!
I agree with you 100%.
Glad he is ok, these cars are kind of tanks in their own right. My first car was an 80 T-bird identical to the one I am fixing up now, bought it myself for $300 + 150 for the rims you see in my pics. I did a lot of stupid stuff in that car and it had lots of dents, dings, missing parts, etc. to prove it, but it made me a better driver now because I learned a cars limits in a hurry. I am not looking forward to when my boys get to be driving age, I have a feeling I will be dealing with the same stuff. I think you handled it well, I would have hugged him for being alright, then choked the sh*t out of him, lol
