Title: Transmission Mount '88 TC
Post by: T-BirdX3 on March 20, 2012, 08:54:14 PM
Was ordering some Energy Suspension pieces for my sway bars, rear control arms, and such. I wanted to order an Energy Suspension trans mount to but the image Summit shows doesn't look compatible with the t-5 TC mount.

Anyone tried it or have any other suggestions for a trans mount?

Link to trans mount at Summit.

Tom are you sure? I remember my TC having a single stud coming out of the bottom, not two studs? Thanks for the help!

Haaa Just noticed that it has threads in the center, so you could just use the center whole instead of the outside wholes. Right?

i just checked mine, it's a single stud.. a rustang crossmember would give you the 2 stud slots, if you really wanted to go that direction

I had one of those and couldn't use it with a 88TC crossmember. I had to go with the single stud style and returned the poly part.

Why couldn't you use it?

The 3 hole is the correct one. I have used several over the years. Or get out your MAKITA  that makes it fit for sure if it is a two hole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After realizing that it has three holes I feel sure you are correct! It was one of the several items that I ordered today, so we will know for sure in a couple of days.

Thanks for the help Tom!

I will install it as soon as it gets here, mine is toast as well!

I have a vibration above 70, that comes and goes depending on throttle position, that I just can't find. I have replaced tailshaft bushing, universals, then driveshaft. I am going to replace the trans mount and if it doesn't fix the vibration (doubtful) I am going to yank the entire rear out of one of the other cars and replace the whole rear! So needless to say I am getting desperate for it to go away! lol

doesn't help when BJL drives past my house and revs his car :( he's a big meanie.. he not nice to me.. LOL

seriously, there's a possibility that the vibration could be coming from your toasted trans mount.. you figure at those speeds, any little weak link can give you trouble

I can grab the back of the front of my drive shaft and move the trans side to side, so it very well could be the trans mount. But if it isn't the only thing really left is the rear, I just can't think of anything else that would give this kind of vibration! I plan on taking it on a 950 mile round trip here in a few weeks and I will be dang gone if I want to deal with this vibration for that many miles!

oh .. yeah.. i'm going to bet it's the mount.. if you can do it by hand, just imagine what your driveshaft is doing to it at 70+ lol

I hope it fixes it but just in case it doesn't, I went ahead and ordered all of the bushings for the rear control arms and everything to rebuild the brakes on the other rear! :D

That mount is shot and it is good you are replacing it. You also get rid of all the junk related to the stock mount. Good call on the replacing it. The stock ones suck!!!

Think I found my leaning problem .....

Both the green ones came off the same car! Sadly my new ones are shorter than the factory ones .....  grrrrrr lol

Links will not cause or correct a LEAN. Just Saying.

That makes me sad :( ......  lol

I am going to go ahead and install the new ones, I don't see where the length matters to much as long as they are the same.

you should be alright with the new E.S. endlinks but why is one of the old ones appear longer in the center sleeve area then the other one??
