Ok so i have this fiberglass panel sitting on top of my roof and i want it off. Its held to the roof with some type of glue / adhessive. Any ideas on how to get it off with out being to destructive to my car?
What kind of fiberglass panel....and why? Got any pics?
I'd say rip off what you can, DA sander after that. Better ideas may come up, but I'd think your choices are limited.
maybe a plastic putty knife? the panel your talking about.. was it for a vinyl top?
Ill put up some pics this evening when i get home. Some body in my old complex cut half the blue cloth off my car. So instead of replacing it i'd rather remove the entire vinyl top.
What year is this car?
1988 cougar ls 3.8 v6
LOL! i just noticed it says you live in browns mills.. do you know a dude named mike hughes?
No i don't. Does he work in a shop around here
i don't think he works, but he lives in BM.. he's big into lifted B2's and F250's, has 1 of each if i remember right
Is the f250 black i saw one today. I live in browns mills also
nah, red.. it's not on the road, apparently.. this is his B2 though..

Thats a nice truck. Ill keep an eye out for it. Are you still in south jersey?
yeah.. in lower gloucester county
Quick questiin. When i remove the top off my car there will be a bunch of little holes from the screws that held it in place. Whats the best (or easiest) way to fill or cover thoses holes?
if you want a quick, temporary fix, use jb weld.. i'd recommend denting a small area around the hole, so you can sand it and spray some primer or paint over it.. i wouldn't recommend this as a permanent fix.. permanent would definitely be weld them, grind down the weld and spread just a touch of filler over them to smooth everything out
this is the stuff that was hold the fiberglass panel to the roof. it has a rubbery feel to it and i dont know how to remove it...srri im so late at getting tese pics up..
its also on the inside quarter panel windows
it's some sort of butyl.... razor blade looks like it will work... keep it flat to the surface, and it shouldn't dig into the paint
ok ima go out and give that a try..
if a ravor blade still digs into the paint, try a plastic putty knife/ser.. it may leave a little behind, but you should be able to get the last of it off with acetone
thats was gonna be my next question lol. the razor blade worked great. so acetone shoukd be used to get the thin layer thats lwft behind off?
yes that should clean the rest up
i'd put some in a spray bottle, spray it on there and let it sit for a minute.. then with a little elbow grease, it should come right off.. it'll probably leave a little residue behind, but you can just spray it again and wipe it down to get the last of it
ok ill have to do that in the morning
thank ypu guys for your help on this. just took the first little step to breathing some new life into my old girl
that's why this forum is here ;) needless to say, you're very welcome.. anything we can do to help a bird/cat keep breathing!
