Title: Battery cables, fuel rails?
Post by: ZondaC12 on March 08, 2012, 09:48:00 PM
I've found the positive one on ebay, with the correct end. I need a ground cable. For 87/88 or if other years fit. This is what the end should look like, at the battery http://www.ebay.com/itm/83-84-85-86-MUSTANG-MOTORCRAFT-POS-BATTERY-CABLE-NEW-/190549690347?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5da587eb&vxp=mtr.

I don't know if the grounding spot ever changed, but mine goes from the battery to a spot right on the block next to the oil filter, and has that little wire branching off the battery end going to an eye terminal screwed to the body right behind the battery.

Either mustangs had different looking ends, or latemodelrestoration has the wrong cables LOL.

And 5.0 fuel rails. I swapped the entire explorer intake from the red car onto the silver car when I bought it. I just looked at the rails that were on that car...maybe from sitting in my basp00get for 2 years, but there are strips of dirt/rust inside the rails I can see through the injector holes. So I don't think it would be smart to use it. Looking locally too, there's plenty on ebay but no one posts pictures looking inside it or expressly says that the inside is clean too.

The late model resto ones look to be correct to me. They look just like the Motorcraft cables I bought from the local Ford dealer 6 years ago to replace my factory cables. They fit perfectly.

Paul,
It's just a battery cable.  Save your money.  As stated, NAPA has cables that are molded to the head and are not the cheap bolt on kind.  Just measure your old cable and find one the appropriate length at NAPA.

If he is going for factory correct there is no substitute for a Motorcraft cable.

Is that positive one a bit pricey? Yeah. But I want this thing right. 100%. Down to those stickers. That's why I'll be photoshopping a fan shroud sticker. And, since I am delayed with finding a fuel rail, I'm gonna go ahead and do what I kinda-sorta wanted to do anyway: take the injectors back out of the intake and paint them gray, like 14 lb/hr ones. I'll go back to a statement I made a long time ago "ONLY the headers will give anyone a hint that it is anything more than stock".

If someone has or finds a nice ground cable that corresponds to mine...charge me $50 like that one if you want!!! It's worth it to me, it truly is. If I could pull one outta you-know-what, I would. But sometimes you have to pay to get exactly what you want, and not "just as good". I hate doing that. It's never "just as good". I look at it, every time, and wish I'd gotten the exact piece.

WELL...............that might have to be modified lol. Everyone here surely knows by now what powers it. But the secret remains here. To locals that will come in contact, they will react with SHOCK and AWE at....270 horsepower lol. But hey it's more than a buck over what it had!!

Do you need fuel rails? I have a set up here. Are you looking for non-pitted perfect ones? I think the ones I have are a little dirty but non rusted. Ill have to check em out

Definitely don't have to be perfect, I'd rather they not have rust all over them, but that could be dealt with using some of that chrome imitation paint and good adhesion prep. You can't even see half the  thing with the intake on LOL. Biggest thing is again, making sure inside is clean. I'd really rather not plug the injector filters.
