Ok, I ordered the ES main bushings for my new TC sway bar but here is the problem... the bushings are greasable and came with a new bracket with a grease fitting to allow it to be greased, but the bracket is way too short. I ordered it for the TC so I don't understand what's wrong now. Any one see this problem before? I can't find anything about it here or even on Google.....
Pictures please?
Well the kit looks like this:
and is supposed to go together like it shows below, but as we all know, our brackets pretty much look exactly like what is pictured, which really doesn't make any sense itself.....The bracket they supply isn't deep enough to accomodate for how deep the lower bracket is. (the diagram is drawn upside down from how it goes on the car)
Ok, so looking at it in the image as it is above, you're saying the bottom bracket that they supply, isn't "tall" enough to fill the gap between the OE top bracket and the bushing?
exactly.
looking at it online I don't understand either, b/c the mutang kits are the exact same thing. And the mustang brackets are the same length as ours so I don't know what they're trying to pull here.
To be honest, I don't give a whether it's greased or not, as long as it will function normally with the stock brackets and covering up the nipple in the bushing that I have. I didn't necessarily order greasable, that's just what they ordered when I told them I wanted poly bushings. And I don't feel like going back a third time and waiting another half a week for the non-greased correct ones again.
I had the same issue.. I greased the tar out of it and slipped it all back together.
I have the same ones on the bird
Looks/sounds like it may be for a Mustang...the TC (and all '87-'88 Tbird, for that matter) mounts the bar a little further from the subframe...hence the longer bracketry.
EDIT
Which part # did you get?
That's what I would do. Remove the nipple from the bushing, grease the hell out of the inside, and slap it in the stock brackets. I ended up using Prothane bushings which just fit back in the stock brackets.
Is there any way for you to just drill a hole and insert the zerk into the original brackets, and use the new bushing?
same thing done here, reuse all the old bracketry
Well the general consensus seems to be to reuse the stock brackets so I think I will. There is no way I could drill the new hole in exactly the correct spot I'm just not that talented lol.
btw part # is 4.5162G
Hmm. The ones I have reused all my original brackets. No greaseable parts. And it was just the bushing, nothing else. Can't remember and didn't keep the part #.
I had the same issue, I greased it and put together. Mine didn't fit real well as some one has towed my car using the sway bar and the brackets curved forward.
I have an extra set of both sides I could send you free if you need them. Now if you need the upper ones that are welded to the frame I can't help you though lol.
Well I just slapped it on lastnight, haven't seemed to had any problems. I didn't bother greasing them cause 1 - I have no grease, and 2 - I got the graphite infused bushings anyway so technically they're self lubricating.
Bar seems a whole lot better but I won't really know till I get some decent shocks on the front. My current ones are the ~275,000 mile originals. In other words, it's like I don't even have any. :dunce:
I picked up a set of the non-greasable a few days ago. I'm going to get a couple of zerk fittings and drill the holes in my existing lower brackets and into the bushing itself. Shouldn't be too hard. When I do it, I'll post some pics of it.
Yep. TC sway bar mount brackets are twice as deep as the Mustang ones. Sounds like you need the bracket pieces that match your swaybar, Steve.
My top brackets look exactly like the picture.
