Title: stalls while slowing down
Post by: mpd86 on June 02, 2005, 11:03:53 AM
HI

I own a 1986 Cougar with a 3.8 TBI. I'm encountering a problem, the car stalls, while slowing down for instance down an off ramp. The car won't startup immediately and usually have to wait a few minutes though the waiting time is increasing before the car starts. Any ideas ? I'm planning on replacing TFI.

If yer using the brakes when you slow down, I would look at ALL the vac lines.
On my '84 5.0, all the lines were really brittle (nylon gets like that with heat and age)
They can be sneaky when they're in wire loom. Look at the ones near the intake and exhaust areas. I found quite a few that were cracked and, when you moved 'em ever so slightly the engine would sputter and die at idle.
It's worth lookin' at....splice any broken/cracked ones with regular 1/8" vac. line and use 3" wire ties for clamps. Worked great for me.
Good Luck !
