ive always noticed, that most people have that close-minded attitude, that their era of cars is the best, and no other even compairs, the article was probably written by someone with a mid 60's bird, when they were getting big, and considers that to be better than any era of thunderbird

These Birds surely arn't cars of my youth(try '50s-'60s), but my 5.0'd TC suits me just fine... As far as ugly.... I do take exception to that... What about the later 70s??? Most of those are just plain FUGLY. Was at a car show a few years ago and there wsa a guy talking about how great his '73 Torino was(first year with the BIG snow plow bumper). Turned to one of my buddies and said, yea cars like that are why I bought my '69 Cobra Jet in '73.
As far as owning cars of my youth I'd like to have a '57 Ford 2dr sedan, or a '63-'64 Galaxie fastback(had two '64s). But they'd be BIG blocks or possibly converted to EFI....
I'm thinking he may have had the early 1980's in mind with that comment...the Thunderbrick was downsized from the rolling tanks that were the 1977-79 models. That makes more sense...then again, this is an old dude spewing forth words aimlessly and without thought. He might have just forgotten his Prozac that morning. ;)
I don't know about you guys, but the last time I stood next to a Baby Bird, it looked pretty small to me. Talking out of your arse is easy, but the results reek.
My rebuttal to him would be: I guess we all can't like girly roadsters in fruity pastel colors.
And since the Discobirds (77-79) were the best sellers by a WIDE margin, the sedan based Tbirds will have a more loyal following than the roadsters. (fingers crossed!)
I forgot the '03+ T-birds were the pinnacle of Ford's design... ugh.
Perhaps they're talking about the OTHER ugly square-box cars of the '80s. Take any other 1983 mid-size car and put it next to a T-bird and you can clearly see the advantages of Aero design. Dog's? Sure... that goes without saying. The '83 5.0 cars had what.. 130 horsepower? My new Neon has that much in a 2.0 four-banger!

This makes me think, we should somehow figure out how many cars, as a community we have owned. It'd be neat to see one number of how many cars we've owned, collectively, I be it'd be seomwhere around 4-500.

Total number of Fox-era T-birds and Cougars owned now, or at one time by members of this board. That's what I'd like to get a number on. Seeing Tom post on here made me think of it, because he's owned about 40 billion of 'em. I know I've owned 4 fox cars, 3 of them T-birds/Cougar.
I've owned three Fox 'Birds (an 85 V6, an 87 Sport and the current 88 5.0) and one Fox Cougar (the 88 5.0 LS). I also owned an MN12 Bird, a '91 V6
He's probabally refering to the 80-82 birds going from 350,000 79 models sold to 65,000? 1980 models (couldnt find the right book...) pissed off a lot of the old guys (who these cars were marketed towards) who whined and continue to whine about its 'fairmont styling' Theres no love for these cars and even less for the 'box birds' get used to it, thats part of the reason I love these cars.

I did a nose count over on the old Sleasy Board, but it fell victim to the 20 page limit... Best I can tell the total is some where around 275-300 and a couple more than once.
how can this guy talk about "downsizing" t-birds when the late 60 birds were like 300 times the size of the original t-bird?? man on man. talk about someone talk straight of their rear...
these 80's dogs were the first cars with "aero" design and were some of the sportiest looking cars to come out of the american 80's auto market. no bubbles, or pink, or huge fins, they went back to t-bird basics, or "we are a sporty couple with a refined taste"
