I have a 85 cougar, Wanting to put a 9 inch in it for relatively cheap. I have a 351w pushing about 386 horse. It was my school project. Can this be done? Thanks!
I check my email alot, it may be better to reply there. vito_324@yahoo.com, Thanks.
Yes
How? Do I buy brackets? Where can I see a pic of how to do it? Thanks.
Why not find a 8.8? They are more than capable of handling 300-400 hp.
i have a 9" in my capri.. i started with an empty courier housing (freebie).. i just made my own brackets for the axle tubes out of 2x3 1/4" wall square steel tubing.. i'm running stock style tubular control arms, so i copied the brackets that were on the 7.5 that came out of the car, and reinforced them.. the uppers, are a different story.. but there are a couple ways you can do it.. the route i took, of building your own.. or cut the brackets off your stock rear.. an 8.8 TC rear would definitely hold up great in your case, though

1/4 INCH WIDER ON EACH SIDE.
it's the same as a TC rear, with the exception of the 5 lug axles and better brakes
I would take a vented disk over a solid, but doesn't really matter on the rear of a car.
You can get a fox specific 9" housing. Google it or you can make a 8.8 take allot of abuse for the price of a 9"housing
Hell, I forgot about the 8.8, I think i'll get one of those instead. Thanks guys!
Yeah Most of The outlaw radial mustangs run 8.8s and they push over 1000hp
Remeber that the Fox Mustang 8.8 is a bit narrower than the SN95 Mustang housing. The SN95 is the same width as the stock housing in most T-Birds. Do a search as there are several threads on here discussing that very topic. Good luck with the swap, it's a direct bolt in.
