Title: 86 XR7 Tach
Post by: turbotrav on January 29, 2012, 10:00:19 AM
So the 351 swap is proceeding.

My tach is not going to work.  If you read here http://www.coolcats.net/modifying/4to8tach.html

That basically says im hosed.  Does anybody know how to mod the 85-86 style?
Can I just swap to the 87-88TC style than do the mod.  Or can I swap in 88 Sport/XR7 V8 tach?  I kinda want to keep a working boost gauge.  So the V8 would be my last choice.

Thanks,

Travis

I don't recall anyone here trying to convert the 1985-86 tach to a V8 spec.
If it were me, I'd just swap out the 1987-88 style so you can keep the boost gauge and also modify it for V8 spec.

Yeah that makes sense.....off to NATO to find a 87-88 tach.

Thanks,

Can I Use the signal from a MSD to make the tach work with the change from to 4cyl to 8?

You'll probably need the 8910 or 8920 tach adapter, but I dunno for sure...
