Something I've been thinking about doing for some time now, is installing a switch in the RWBB that when flipped, will disable the fuel pump. I've decided to go ahead and do it. Not only will it allow me to make the car more theft-resistant. It will also allow me to bleed fuel pressure off before working on the fuel system. I'm gonna install it within easy reach of the driver's seat for convenience.
It will be easy to do. The tan/light green wire that runs past the passenger side doorsill grounds the control circuit in the fuel pump relay. Interrupt that wire with a toggle switch and you can now enable, or disable the fuel pump at will.
Anyone else ever think about doing this?
Just don't get old and forget it's there.
An elderly neighbor ask me help figure out why his Buick wouldn't start.
He had an ignition kill switch in the glove box he had forgot about.
Lol. Now THAT's funny! :)
I have one and like it. But Ive rewired everything and used a relay with the premium selector in the tc. as the switch
I'm gonna be doing something like this as well. Good stuff.
You know the inertia switch in the trunk does the same thing. I just unplug it, start the car, and the fuel pressure is relieved.
Okay, so you're saying that I just find the tan/green wire on the passenger side, cut the wire and reconnect both ends to a 2 way toggle and boom?
See above.
Reach in trunk, unplug the switch. Car will not start and you will relieve the fuel pressure when you try to start it.
Actually on my mustang i just take the relay with me when i want to secure my car from ruffians that want it!!
you can also switch the N safety switch wire too for security. it goes through the floor on the drivers side.
You can remove the fuel pump relay and take it with you to secure your car, or trip the inertia switch to purge fuel from the fuel lines, but having a disguised switch you can flip from the driver's seat is much easier.
Thats true CHROME. But do you know anyone looking to steal a car carry a fuel pump relay with them ????????????. I hear what you are saying and it is something we do for people with cars they want to protect. Kill switches are good for a fast way to protect your car. How it is dun is every ones personal choice. (killing ignition or fuel pump or starter etc) Killing the pump relay is a very good way to accomplish it. Just make sure you hide it GOOD.
