I have to say today I got the first legitimate stare at the bird. Guy in a Milan drove past at 2mph looking at the car as if it were coated in gold, and gave me a thumbs up. Made me feel pretty goood, otherwise most people call it a Firebird.
I've had a load of stares, smiles, and nods. A few people have called it a thunderturd...one of which then got a good look at the back of the bird from his cavalier. I can't imagine what people will say once I get my custom body work done.
I always get the normal "what kind of car is that" and "whats it got under the hood" and when i tell them its a 2.3L they tend to giggle and say they didnt know tbirds had 4 bangers in them. people have no respect for anything in my town.
Shannun you should show them your tailights more often. haha
"I didn't expect that". "I love the color". "You kicked my cars A$$". "What do you have in it?". "You don't see those anymore". "Does it have a turbo/ is that a turbo Thunderbird"?. "Sweet ride". "It's pretty" (from the girls). "You're lying, it does not have a 4 cylinder". "You're lying. It doesn't have a V-6".
And the Number one thing said about the Thunderbird......... Wife to husband...."get out of my way stupid, THAT'S Vinnietbird and the Sport !!!!!
One guy at the gas station asked me if it had a turbo and an older gentleman asked me what year my Thunderbird was. A gas station attendant asked me how big the tank was and what kind of mileage I get out of it. Good stuff, I like it when people recognize it as a Thunderbird; there simply aren't any more around here.
I got asked tonight if mine was a figment of my imagination. The guy said it must not exist, because he's never seen it. Told him I was out driving it today before work :)
I tell people i have the Hyundai 3.8 in mine
I was once sitting in the tbird in a princess auto parking lot (kinda a Canadian harbor freight) when a guy driving a tractor-trailer stopped right in the road, jumped out of the truck, ran up, and started going on about how much he's always loved those cars and how nice he thought mine was. That was kinda cool...
I hear "nice bird" every so often. Makes me swell with pride every time! lol.
Had some 16 year old boys asking me if it had a "5-oh" this summer...gave me hope that not all youngins are into rice burners.
Once, One guy told me that the car I built was a slow P.O.S. with a lowly crate engine. :hick:
Because of the sharp paint on mine, I get "BEAUTIFUL Thunderbird" a lot.
I've also gotten: "How much and what kind of drugs are you carrying in the trunk, sir?" (cop...)
And another from a cop "I like your car a lot man...what is is?"
man i gonna miss people asking bout my car :(
but the usual what is it?
why you driving a grandmas car? always fun wen i would start it or purge the nitrous lmao.
also had a guy follow me couple miles to local WAWA n jump out n say beatiful car it it a turbo 6?
Most often:
What year Tbird is that?
or
Nice TBird! What year is it?
(I've never owned a TBird and I've been hearing that for almost 18 years.)
One time, After drew this question from some teenagers:
Whoa! WTF is that!
Otherwise, I get the occasional stares and passengers looking back through the back glass or side mirror or turning back to see the front end as they pass. Drivers too except they don't turn around to look through the rear glass thankfully.
Ive been getting nice Thunderchicken from a lot of people, but Ive had some older guys go I used to have one fun little car!!!
Ive also been asked whats that got in it and when I say turbo 4, I usually have to pop the hood to prove it. Then comes is that stock!!!
"nice buick"
or "Is that a *insert generic american car here*"
Thought of another one. This last summer I ran into an old high school classmate while driving the T-bird. He said " dude you are still driving that old thing. Is that even the same car?!?". lol...
When I was at Discounttire getting new tires, the cashier asked me if it really had a turbo :giggle::poke:
50tbrd is it still the same car? That is pretty cool if it is.
I had a dumba$$ at work that drives a 05 V6 mustang tell me to give my grandma her car back. When we left work he was in front of me, we both turned on to the interstate and when we merged on to the highway I blew his doors off, he never had a chance.
I got a "Wow" in the Vert..... nothing ever for my 87..... but it was a giant chick magnet back in the day...
Tha last thing anyone said to me about my Bird was "will you take $2000 cash ??
The best thing said about my (1st) 80 bird. From guy in a late 90's vette at stoplight " nice rust bucket". '428cj powered rust bucket blows vettes doors off, sucks it through carb and spits out exhaust'. Next light he wouldn't even look at me. As for my 2nd bird, the most I got out of it was "hey, nice Monte Carlo".......stupids....
its crazy what some people think these cars are.
Had a young carhop at the local Sonic one time tell me that her brother had a Firebird just like mine...(this was the white Tbird, the 3.8 that I had before the Sport)..I replied back that "if he had a Firebird, then it wasn't like mine, because this is a Thunderbird"...she just stared at me....and she didn't get a tip, either.
Yep, same car since I was 16 or 17. I'm 29 now...
My favorite: "I used to have one just like that! Really, it was just like it, except...". The most annoying: "Is that a Turbo Coupe? No? Too bad those were really fast!"
I hear some variation of the two regularly.
Usually I here what is it, or nice car sounds great. Except when I went to the ford dealer to meet my wife to sign papers for her new escape, The sale guys were all over it, saying all kinds of stuff that weren't right about it. Honestly it's not stock. The one fool offered me 5 grand trade in,I said toward what, you have nothing here I would be interested in. They were impressed after leaving with I left them on the ground. I still see some nice ones here totally stock yet to,there getting fewer though.
I get the Turbo Coupe thing at shows all the time. With the hood popped and a 5.0 in the bay..........
Thunderjet that sure is one of the best looking cars I have seen. Very nice!!
