Title: Alternator replacement
Post by: flgypsysoul on January 23, 2012, 02:50:57 PM
Ok new to the game...but have a 1988 TC that seems to need a new Alternator.  My questing is, it has one wire going to a lug nut and one plug in.  Is the a voyage regulator and if so where is it located.  I checked around the battery compartment but cant seem to locate if there is one.  How do I tell what type of alternator to buy or voltage regulator?

The voltage regulator is on the alternator.

Thanks Matt.....But it is not showing one like the pictures on the net...ie the plastic attachment.  Guess I will have to take it out and take to Auto Zone or somewhere else to check it out.

I see what you're saying; it looks like the alternator changed in 1988 from a Motorcraft to a Mitsubishi style. Maybe someone that knows more about those can chime in.
