Title: Car youd like to own (realistic)
Post by: Tbird232ci on May 30, 2005, 09:59:35 PM
I was sitting back and thinking, i see these type of threads pop up, and people post all the stuff they would never be able to have, like a 2 original mile 91 Cuda AAR 340 6-pack, or something like that

i wondered what people would want on a more realistic scale, for example, i wouldnt mind:

91-92 Supra, turbo preferably

I've got several, but I'm not gonna post pics owing to the fact I'm at the cottage and suffering the dialup blues:

2005 Dodge Magnum wagon with Hemi and AWD, jet black with chrome rims and 5% tint all 'round
1949-51 Mercury, chopped, channeled, updated chassis and brakes, and supercharged Cobra power
1969 Fastback Mustang (prefer big block, but small block would do)
2005 Mustang GT
Volvo V70 or 850 wagon T5-R
1997-2004 Dakota 4X4 short box with the 318 and a 5-speed (or the 360 if available, but I think the 360 only came in 2WD models)

And of course, my '88 'Bird, but with a HO/T5 swap, 3.73's and big brakes. Aw hell, while I'm fantasizing I may as well toss in a pair of Twisted Wedge aluminum heads, a whipplecharger, and the cam/fuel/exhaust system required to support it, and a Cobra IRS out back

thats good, but id say only about half of it is realistic :hick:

anyway, im with ya on the magnum awd black and some draglights with paxton, or a 2002 tbird black with jag xkr motor, or a  jag xkr even a xk8 would do (non convertable).

Car I'd like to own?

I'm building them :p

The only other "realistic" wants would be a Euro Capri, and a 74-76 VW Dasher 2-door.

- A '64 Fairlane Thunderbolt, or (more realistically) a knock-off of above. Wouldn't have to be accurate.
- A '63 1/2 or '64 Galaxie 500 2-door fastback.. at least a 390 in it, for old time's sake.
- A Fairmont/Zephyr with a 2.3T in it, or with a boosted 200 I6. (yeah, a 200.. not the 300 project)
- Any Fox-body Capri without the bubble-hatch. Maybe with my 351 stuck under the hood.
- One of my current cars (even the LSC is fair game) made into a sedan delivery.. with the boosted 300 I6 project and one of my quirky alternative-gearing ideas. Need to find someone willing to do a good photochop for this one.
- A 1971 (year I was born) Corvette.. would have to be dark green.

While all of the above is in the fantasy realm while I'm still unemployed, I don't expect my finances to suck forever.. so I expect at least one of the above will be possible within the next 5-10 years.

Ones I doubt will be possible even after that:

- Shelby Cobra, even if it's a kit-Cobra.
- Ferrari F355.
- Porsche 959, the only Porsche I like.

Might edit more into this later.

Hey Bird351, the bubble hatch mustangs were plenty here, and mostly with 351. These were very quick cars.....(i´m thinking in your project "stump-puller" for this car ?)

Well, ill be happy with a convertible cougar, with 500HP with any V8 and six speed manual, and A/C (my cougar dont have A/C....now im using 2/60 a/c) and CD player (mmm, i only had an old cassette stereo....)

But if were directly from the dealer, ill choose a Mercury Marauder or a Ford Lightning...

The "stump-puller" would be covered pretty much by the supercharged 300 I6 project.

I like Fox Capris.. I've owned two of them in the past.. I just don't like the bubble-hatch. I had an '80 with the 2.3 and an '81 with the 200 I6 and T-tops. I'd love to have another Capri with T-tops.. just no bubble-hatch. :p

In no particular order (and I do believe these are realistic):

--87-88 T-bird w/ a H.O. conversion designed to be powerful but not suck the gas dry during city or highway driving.
--87-88 T-bird w/ a beefcake of a 4 banger turbo setup (to make chuck happy!!!).
--05 or whatever Dodge Srt-4 w/ a Stage 3 setup.
--88 Pontiac Fiero GT w/ a chebby 350 v8 conversion setup (they're technically my most favorite car, but I love my T-bird pretty much the same!).
--93 Toyota Supra w/ a setup to make it a 10-12 second quarter mile car.
--92 Geo Metro, daily driver since I'd be afraid of scratchin' the baby's!!!

- 48 Ford Anglia done up Gasser Style
- 62-63 T-Bird Sports Roadster
- Some old Chevy muscle car (TBD) with a FORD engine in it (my payback for all the fords with chevy 350's in them) I'm thinking Camaro or Nova, you know, something very very Chevy...
- Any year Ranchero

As for newer cars:
- Mazda RX8... I have an obsession with these
- 05 Style Stang (you know, till whenever they change the body)
- Any Year Miata... But rather than a 5.0, I'd put a 2.3 turbo motor in

And if I ever ran in to the money... an ERA GT kit car. I don't think this is unrealistic, I'd just need the spare cash, the kit alone is like $55k.

My cousin has an 80 Turbo T/A. It was my aunts car since new and he bought it from her. Black on Black with gold stripes fully loaded and it has just a little over 20,000 miles. It looks showroom new.

and still probably broke down a few times...

my aunt had an 81, and the turbo technology from chevy was so...lacking, that under boost, they had a tendancy to run very lean

draw through turbo/carb setups didnt work very well on the 2.3L fords...so GM put it on a Pontiac 301...interesting

The R/T dakota's are all RWD, the only 4x4 and its not a 4x4 its AWD with the 360 is the Durango as the biggest part of the package is the suspension components and the drop. That someones 4x4 R/T was just a 4x4 dakota with R/T wheels and decals as many of them do that and didnt have a 360 in it unless he did the swap himself. Theres alot of posers out there, remember. " No "Z" not an "R/T" R/T's have a z in the vin number, I couldnt tell ya how many people try to tell me their dakota is a r/t and they they have are the wheels and decals.

As for the cars,

Definitely:
Buick Grand National
1999 or 2003 F-150 SVT
BMW 318i
1997 30th anniversary cougar
Lincoln LS
Mercury Marauder

Possibly:
Hyabusa
Newer Supra
1998 Eclipse GT Drop Top
Probe GT
94 Super Coupe
2002 Dodge Intrepid
1996-98 Bronco
Durango R/T (Very Likely)

Yeah, the 301 is a dog. Car isn't fast but it looks like it. Niether one of them have had any breaking down issues with it though. Now it doesn't travel any further than 10 miles or so from his house unless it's trailered.
Title: Re: Car youd like to own (realistic)
Post by: Thunder Chicken on May 31, 2005, 06:48:58 PM
Yeah, those 301's were garbage, turbo'd or not. My third car, an '80 Formula, had the 301 4-bbl and it was JUNK. Looked very good, but JUNK. My next car after that one, and my first Thunderbird, had the 3.8 and would run rings around it.

I have heard nothing good about the first turbo T/A, but , they look good. If I had one I'd yank the 301/turbo drivetrain and stuff a 455 or a built TPI 350 in. Now, the second turbo T/A (89, wasn't it?) was HOT HOT HOT!!! Buick GN drivetrain in a much lighter Firebird body...

Oh. Didn't know that about the turbo TA V8's. Oh well. It's not like the wife would ever let me buy one of those 'greasemobiles' anyway. She cringes at the sight of any F-body between the second Gen and second last. (poor girl was raised in a ford home) :disappoin

I really don't see a situation where I'd ever need to sell the convertible. As long as I'm alive there are no plans for a 'For Sale' sign on my car (Will's pseudo-extortion photo from the hotel at Carlisle a few years ago doesn't count)...sorry to dash dreams here. The car is willed to someone who won't sell it either.

What do you think I'm thinking? ;) Well, more than thinking....doing.  Gotta get the Tbird back on the road first.

Sounds good, *nod* I assume you're gonna force feed it.  :D  I'd like to put one in a second gen Escort. Talk about a sleeper.

This picture here is why I like the aussi cars so much.

I saw a couple of people say they'd like to "ruin" a Chevy muscle car by putting Ford power in it to get back at all those guys that ruin their Fords with Chevy power. I've always had this idea too, but I'd want to take it to the extreme (which would require Bill Gates money):

Find the holy grail of GM cars, an original ZL1 Camaro. We're talking super-duper rare, all-alloy, 427ci big block F-Body here. Spend a fortune to make it concours correct, submit pics to a Chevy rag and arrange for a photo shoot...

...then yank the whole drivetrain and stuff a diesel Tempo engine in there. I mean the whole works, too - we're talkin' making this puppy FWD with Ford/Mazda diesel power. And automatic. Keep the body and wheels stock, though, so when the magazine shows up for the shoot you can show them the car with the hood closed. Give them documentaion proving originality and documenting your restoration...

...then, when they're ready to bust a nut at this cream-of-the-Chevy-crop masterpiece, open the hood and watch them faint:evilgrin:

Then tell them that I will repeat this massacre on another rare Chevy for every Chevy-powered Ford I see in a magazine. If I could get away without being assasinated, at least:macgun: :wtf:

That's hilarious. Why not add in the AWD Tempo setup? :D

Because the idea would be to add as little "cool" as possible. Wouldn't want anyone to say "Well at least it's AWD" :p

Don't get me wrong, Oldraven, I'd give my right nut for a Yenko or ZL1 Camaro (my left nut is reserved for a '69 Boss 429 Mustang), but I'd just love to "get back" at those guys that take the easy (and very, very boring) way out by dropping small block Chevies into everything. I've got nothing against Chevy (I even owned an '83 C10 Scottsdale, 305, 3-speed standard, column shift), but keep the Chevy engines in Chevies. And keep Pontiacs in Pontiacs, Buicks in Buicks, etc. To me a car is ruined when I see a boring ol' SBC in it, unless the car is a Chevy. Of course I am somewhat of a hypocrite here, given my first (and still favourite) car was a '78 Trans Am with a '70 LT1 350 in it, but that was there when I bought it.

The only time I like to see an engine swap that involves putting manufacturer A's engine into manufacturer B's body is when it's an oddball swap and cool just for being odd, like the guy that used to come to the old board with a 500ci Caddy powered Turbo Coupe, or the guy I knew with a Dodge 340-powered late 70's Toyota somethingorother, or a Northstar-powered Fiero, or something like that. There's no excuse to put a Chevy engine in any Ford because Ford makes engines that are just as good, just as "moddable", and just as common. Save your 350 for a '49 torpedo-back Chevy. Put a 351 in your '49 Ford. Hemi up that Airflow or Desoto. Et cetera...

Best. Plan. EVAR.

I'd chip in money for something like that.. if I, you know, actually had any spare money or something.. :p

If I can find a pic of one I have a 308 flathead huson with duel 1 barrel carbs on it. I will donate that to the cause.  :hick:

Now I think that would piss some people off.

No worries man, I agree that this is a stupid trend than needs to go out of style. The problem is, the SBC will always be the first father-son project engine, just because it's easy work, and a great learning tool. That said, there will always be some body in some field with no engine they can drop their project into.

But please, leave the COPO's alone. :D When you see an ultra-rare Ford with an SBC, then bitch slap the guy, and leave it at that. Two wrongs don't make a right. (don't make me pull out another cliche)

I know you'll never follow through on this though, just because I don't see you being the type of idiot who drops anything but a Ford in a Ford, or Chevy in a Chevy.

Oh, and for every 350 Shelby Cobra you see, (they're more common than 427's now) here's to sand in the gas tank. :D

And a new addition to my list, the '05 Chevy SSR. They put the LS2 and six speed from the Vette in it this year, and did some major chassis work to make it more solid and cure the underpowering issue.

390hp 405tq + blower = awesome SSR that I need! First mod, loose the plastic engine cover!
