like it says i am gettin bonus check from work this week ill have about $800 where would you spend it performance wise... my (88)thunderbird currently has shorty headers, lers, aftermarket convertor n some nitrous,cam,gt40heads... suspension is bone stock. give me some ideas or opinions..
Subframe connectors keep it straight, with slicks and on the bottle.
You running a stock intake, or h.o.? Gt 40 intake is cheap and easy. Ford explorer or cobra.
already have just need to install
an i am running a cobra intake came with the car wen i bought it
some nice SN95 drag struts and tubular control arms get my vote.. unless your trans is stock with just a converter.. if that's the case, i vote on some trans work for sure
Forgot that trans is a C4 reverse manual valve body.. my buddy keeps telling me I could pick up a cheap turbo kit but Idk where to get one on a budget
Im gonna need some trans work too. I did my first 6K rpm pull and it slipped pretty bad shifting into second. I vote suspension. 1000 hp aint worth a if you cant get it to the ground.
Coil overs for the rear, and drag shocks. Maybe some che arms?
well than if you have a C4, you're good to go.. turbo kits are a waste of money if you have a welder and decent DIY fab skills.. you can put together a nice turbo setup for around 800, depending on the quality of the turbo you pick up.. search craigslist and look for a decent NAME BRAND turbo, there are more out there than you think.. i prefer to stick to garrett and precision myself.. other than that, all you really need are shorty headers, some tubing, a front mount (if you want to get the most out of the build) and a blow off valve and waste gate/boost controller
i had about $700 into the turbo setup on my capri, the first time around.. i changed it and went bigger/better when i got my F.A.S.T. system and decided to make it more of a race car.. i was pushing 16psi with my first setup and it was MEAN.. for you, 16psi would be suicide with your stock block, as it's likely to split around 500hp, so i would keep it down around 10-12psi for your setup, if you decide to go such route
but i still say do suspension work before throwing more power at the wheels
Could start eyeballing some Megasquirt or other ECU.
Who makes the best rear suspension for tbirds ? Post links thanks

You van use thr coilnover kits for a 94-04 muatang, but the shocks aren't quite as long as the stock birds. You would endup with 1 1/2" less travel.
thanks HAYSTACK, any other companys make "drag specfic" suspension for the tbird? i just wanna buy once, after this motor a bigger motor is goin in with mulitple stages of nitrous
nitrous is for cheaters and people who are too lazy to build a real motor :flip: lol
if you want to build a nasty motor, build something capable of withstanding 20psi from a turbo.. i'm running 9.80's in my capri at 18psi, at 200lbs over stock weight
but, as for 'bird specific' race parts, there isn't a whole lot.. luckily, the rear is shared with fox mustangs and the front is SN95 compatible (with less travel, like haystack said.. but you can make up for that by messing with ride height, if you decide to go adjustable coilover.. i would definitely start out back though, help the car squat on the tires when you launch.. then move to the front to help weight transfer and all that jazz
:flip: lol
thanks alot guys for the info
I would most definatly invest some cash in the rear end of your car to get it to hook right. drag shocks possibly drag bags (thats what Im running) and air shocks taylored to side specific shrader valves so you can adjust the pressure per side.
If that isnt enough get you a tube kmember. before i sat the motor in the bird I could lift the entire nose of the car off the stands with the front end 99% assembled.
Good point. Which rear do you have now, and 4 or 5 lug? 5 lug is easy to do if you want to upgrade brakes or already have, and want a 8.8 axle. The 94-98 mustang should have 5 lug disk brakes, and have a swappable length rear axle. If you want to keep the drums, the 90-94 explorer used 10" 5lug drums, that I think are the correct type. I just haven't looked into the hub height though. If your going to go custom, its worthwhile to go c-clip eliminators or 9" ends.
car has 8.8 (disc brakes) 4 lug :( ill eventually swap to 5 lug. i actually just found a prochager so i might scoop that up :) boost+nitrous :burnout:
